Overview

This position is responsible for managing all facets of inventory along with management of material procurement for the entire locomotive mechanical group; this will extend to other Mobile Repair Units, contract shops and potentially a locomotive repair facility. As a strategic sourcing and functional procurement process (P2P) expert, this position will work closely with the Mobile Repair Units (MRU's), Contract MRU providers and/or Field Services' purchasing and materials personnel as well as with IT and Accounts Payable. This person is accountable for meeting KPI's for all programs and initiatives as assigned by the Director, North American Maintenance Operations.

This role can be remote OR based out of Chicago, IL or La Porte, TX.



Responsibilities

    Sourcing and procurement strategy development/execution for all assigned commodities, products and/or services.
    • Develop and maintain long-term supplier relationships and contracts that will provide GATX with competitive advantages including lowest total cost, highest quality products, inventory turn improvement and superior customer service.
    • Identify and develop lowest total cost opportunities through consolidation of suppliers and requirements, alternative sourcing, negotiation, productivity improvements, warranty claim reduction and value analysis.
    • Develop RFQ's and negotiate all commercial terms and conditions associated with assigned projects including contract management post implementation.
    • Accountable for meeting total cost of ownership goal for assigned supply categories.
    • Develop goals and metrics around reducing downtime for locomotives needing material.
    • Responsible for the development and deployment of GATX Locomotive Groups strategic sourcing, procure to pay (P2P) strategies. Specific areas of focus include but are not limited to: category strategy, contract management, supplier relationship management (SRM), P2P automation, best practice process standards, compliance and training.
  1. Process Improvement Orders (IO's) delegated by the Director, North American Maintenance Operations
    • Timely processing for sourcing of all materials required for Improvement Orders (IO's) for new locomotive assignments as well as those for permanent locomotives.
    • Tracks and monitors the status of promised deliveries of IO parts.
    • Coordinates with Locomotive Fleet Management to identify and plan anticipated procurement requirements associated with IO's.
  2. Ad hoc projects
    • Responsible for leading cross functional teams potentially comprised of Operations, IT and Accounting.
  3. Work with corporate Procurement personnel to develop Locomotive mechanical technologies currently utilized by Rail North America.
  4. Act as a liaison between multiple MRU's coordinating material shipments and delivery of material to GATX full service lease customers throughout North America


Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications):

  • Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of procurement process (P2P) best practice and technology.
  • Strong proficiency with SAP Materials Management and Excel.
  • 5+ years of relevant strategic sourcing and procurement experience required

  • Travel requirements of approximately 50%

Min

USD $90,000.00/Yr.


Max

USD $127,000.00/Yr.
This role may be eligible to participate in the Company's short-term incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.
This range is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity, and other business needs.
