A Translational Science and Therapeutics Division laboratory that studies hematopoietic cell biology and develops novel gene therapy and gene editing strategies is recruiting a Research Technician II to assist with in vivo modeling studies. The position involves various responsibilities, including collection of primary tissue samples, calculation and administration of medications, and precise and accurate record keeping. Studies include multiple models of human disease, including work with HIV and HIV-like viruses. This position also affords the motivated technician an opportunity to develop/utilize both tissue culture and molecular biology skills.

This job is a one-year sponsored research committment with the potential of it being extended.



Responsibilities

Research Support (65%)

    Perform research projects in a GLP-like environment.
  • Prepare supplies needed to perform specimen requests, perform sample collection procedures, package and distribute samples.
  • Use established aseptic techniques to perform minor surgical procedures such as lymph node biopsies and skin and bone biopsies and their follow-up care.
  • Assist investigators in tissue collection following detailed protocols which may include preparation of tissue for cryopreservation, and various other media solutions or fixatives.
  • Optimize SOPs and troubleshoot procedures/experiments to generate relevant data and improve data quality.
  • Development and updating of laboratory procedures, practice in presentation of data at lab meetings as warranted.
  • Potential to expand sophisticated protocols including apheresis and telemetry monitoring.

Sample Processing (15%)

  • Process blood and tissue samples for cryopreservation

Clinical Monitoring (10%)

  • Monitor for clinical signs of disease, either experimentally related or spontaneous, and reports to the clinical veterinary staff.
  • Administer research related drugs and clinical treatments as directed.

Record Keeping & Inventory Maintenance (8%)

  • Receive and keep records for Schedule II & III controlled drugs.
  • Maintain, sanitize, and stock supplies and equipment in procedure rooms.
  • Complete and submit records of sample collections, experimental procedures, drugs and controlled substance dosages administered, and treatment room logbooks.

Other Duties (2%)

  • Attend meetings, lectures, and training sessions.
  • Perform the duties required of Essential Personnel members in the event of an emergency.
  • Stay current on all required training.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of research experience in in vivo models.
  • Previous experience in project management.
  • Excellent organizational skills and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Highly motivated, possess a high level of initiative and attention to details.
  • Capable of working independently in a team environment, as well as on-call, weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  • Experience administering medications and performing veterinary technical procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
