The Section of Pediatric Genetics at University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM) Peoria is growing and works very closely with the genetics team at UICOM Chicago campus. The pediatric genetics group at Chicago campus currently provides 24/7 coverage for metabolic genetics with 0.3 FTE physician, 1 FTE metabolic dietitian and 1 FTE APN effort dedicated to Children's Hospital of Illinois, Peoria. In addition, 0.2 FTE general genetics support is provided through Chicago campus, this includes in person and virtual clinics. We currently have 3 FTE genetic counsellors and 1 APN support at Peoria campus. The person hired for this position is expected to foster the clinical and research collaboration between the two campuses and continue to build genetics services. There are several opportunities for clinical research and program development. Dedicated protected time for academic work will be provided to the successful candidate.

Position Summary

The person hired for this position is expected to foster the clinical and research collaboration between the two campuses and continue to build genetics services. There are several opportunities for clinical research and program development.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Provide outpatient diagnostic and management services for patients in the region with genetic disorders or undergoing genetic testing and provide inpatient consultation for children with inherited disorders or dysmorphologies. Coordinate the efforts of related professionals to ensure continuous availability of services. Monitor and take steps to enhance the quality of genetic services delivered at UICOMP Department of Pediatrics and UICOMP's main clinical partner, Children's Hospital of Illinois.
  • Develop and work on educational programs and activities for medical students and residents in relation to clinical genetics.
  • Develop clinical research projects in partnership with the Section of Pediatric Genetics at UICOM, Chicago.
  • Maintain a spirit of inquiry and scholarship in the activities of the genetic service.
  • Perform administrative duties and University service as assigned.
  • Some travel may be required between healthcare facilities.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree or foreign equivalent
  • Illinois Physicians License or eligible to obtain Illinois licensure.
  • BC/BE for the American Board of Medical Genetics

Preferred Qualifications

  • BC/BE in pediatrics
