Job Overview

The Fellow will work in the Georgetown Center on Poverty & Inequality through Georgetown Law's Partner Fellowship program. Under the supervision of a Senior Policy Analyst, the Fellow will engage in law-related work that may include, but is not limited to: conducting research; writing memos and other reports; organizing and presenting at conferences and meetings; engaging with the media; coordinating with coalition partners; conducting policy advocacy and public education; and assisting with operational and administrative functions.

The Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality's Economic Security and Opportunity Initiative (ESOI) works with policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and advocates to develop effective policies and practices to alleviate poverty and inequality in the United States. Areas of research include policies, programs, and practices related to tax and benefits, jobs and education, health and human service delivery, and democracy, all with a cross-cutting focus on racial and gender equity.

The Partner Fellow will conduct research and policy analysis: identifying policy issues to explore, collecting and analyzing data, reporting findings, and proposing new ideas for addressing problems on a wide range of issues relating to economic security and opportunity. Fellow will
  • Conduct policy research on pending legislation and regulations, existing laws and policies, and new policy ideas and proposals;
  • Draft and promote papers, articles, fact sheets, briefs, blog posts, op-eds, and social media content;
  • Collaborate with advocates, policy experts, policymakers, media, and other stakeholders.


Work Interactions

The Fellow reports directly to the Senior Policy Analyst. The Fellow will have interaction with students, faculty and support offices on the Law Center's campus, in addition to external partners and stakeholders.

Requirements and Qualifications

The position is open to individuals who have received or will receive a Juris Doctor during the most recent academic year. Coursework relevant to the Center or Institute is preferred. Position requires a commitment to GCPI's mission, excellent research, writing & verbal communication skills, education or experience with policy analysis and research, and basic proficiency in MS Excel (includes ability to enter, correct, and filter data, apply functions in formulas, format worksheets, and work with charts).

*Knowledge of a broad range of economic security issues

*Race, class, and gender equity and inclusion experience, skills, and values

*Self-driven work ethic & initiative and strong capacity for collaboration

*Ability to manage a high volume of work with efficiency

*Strong attention to detail and accuracy

*Flexibility & enthusiasm for learning
