Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Manager, Visual and Performing Arts Building encompasses all responsibilities for management of the LSC-University Park Visual and Performing Arts Building. This includes budgeting, equipment purchases, and the negotiation and execution of rental agreements with external and internal groups and setup of lighting/sound technical equipment for events. This position works with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment in performing a wide variety of duties. Provides highly technical support and/or expertise and provides advice and acts as consultant/designer regarding lighting, sound, and set design/construction. Completes repairs, installations, and building of equipment and sets within the LSC-UP Visual and Performing Arts Building. This is a unique position with limited backup. Due to the building operating hours and events, schedule flexibility is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for general management and administration of the LSC-UP Visual and Performing Arts Building, including budgeting, scheduling events for all users, event production, equipment purchases, repairs, and maintenance, and the negotiation and execution of rental agreements with internal and external groups.
  2. Plans, develops, and implements all technical/electronic requirements and stage equipment needs, including lighting and sound, for all events and productions scheduled in the Visual and Performing Arts Building
  3. Plans, develops, and coordinates setup, strike, and equipment needs for all events scheduled in the Visual and Performing Arts Building
  4. Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises technical staff, production crews, box office staff, and student workers
  5. Responsible for the safe operations for all aspects of the LSC-UP Visual and Performing Arts Building, including monitoring the condition of all equipment and assures that equipment and systems are kept secure and in good repair
  6. Manages front of house operations to include publicity, box office sales, and concessions for all productions in the Visual and Performing Arts Building
  7. Responsible for hiring and managing of part-time staff who assist in the operations of the Visual and Performing Arts Building
  8. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate, understand, and meet the needs of less technical customers
  • Expert knowledge of and ability to use sound and lighting equipment in both Performance Theaters (ETC, Eos, Allen & Health Digital Sound Boards, QLab, Dante AV)
  • Knowledge of computer applications in the fields of lighting design software, and inventory database
  • Excellent organizational skills

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, surfaces; recurrent bending, climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurrent lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above average agility and dexterity. The work requires driving of an automobile.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, Apple computer workstation running MacOS, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment. In addition, equipment includes studio recording equipment, theatrical lighting control consoles, multiple sound boards, carpentry equipment, and other supplementary mechanical equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • This position requires the use of safe work practices with theater equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observances of safety regulations within the work environment and traffic signals while operating an automobile
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Texas driver's license
Salary

Hiring salary range is $63,014 - $72,467

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
