Under general supervision of the Anesthesia/Surgery/Neurology Services Manager and the Service Chiefs, supervise animal health technicians and related staff, assess needs for and provide staff training, develop, manage and update training protocols and safety documentation. Evaluate staff on work performance. Assist with writing and conducting annual evaluations of staff. In conjunction with Manager provide coaching and disciplinary action to staff as needed and assess the daily service needs including insuring appropriate staffing levels, work schedule assignments and equipment needs. Work with OR supervisor to ensure proper billing for specialized surgical supplies and equipment.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Must possess or obtain Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit within 3 months of hire date.
- No Minimum Education required.
- Experience supervising staff including accessing staffing needs and developing staff work schedules and assignments.
- Experience working in a veterinary specialty or emergency hospital setting.
- Knowledge of common small animal surgical procedures, various surgical instruments and surgical accessories, surgical patient preparation and surgical equipment.
- Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with a diverse group of students, staff, clinicians and clients and recognize and manage difficult/unpleasant situations and/or individuals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician License.
- Experience developing, implementing and managing technical SOP's, procedural SOP's, enforcing safety protocols and maintaining training documentation.
- Experience supervising staff in a small animal hospital, Veterinary Specialty or Emergency Service setting.
- Experience in communicating with clients and referring DVM.
