The BIM Design Manager is responsible for overseeing the design team for both fire alarm and sprinkler systems in a large industrial project. This role involves managing the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process, ensuring the integration of fire protection systems into the overall project design, and maintaining high-quality standards in all design deliverables. This position will be for a industrial manufacturing client estimated project length of one year with possible extension.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership and Management:

  • Lead and supervise a team of designers responsible for fire alarm and sprinkler system designs.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to ensure the team meets project goals and quality standards.

2. BIM Process Management:

  • Oversee the implementation and management of BIM processes for fire protection systems.
  • Ensure that all design work is executed in accordance with BIM standards and protocols, promoting efficient collaboration and data management.

3. Design Coordination:

  • Coordinate with other project stakeholders, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure seamless integration of fire protection systems into the overall project design.
  • Facilitate design reviews and meetings to address any clashes or conflicts in the design.

4. Quality Assurance:

  • Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure that all design deliverables meet the required standards and specifications.
  • Conduct regular reviews of design work to identify and address any issues or areas for improvement.

5. Project Documentation:

  • Manage the preparation and submission of all project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Ensure that all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with industry standards and regulations.

6. Problem-Solving and Innovation:

  • Identify and resolve any design challenges or issues that arise during the project.
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement in the design process to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of fire protection systems.

7. Stakeholder Communication:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for fire protection system design-related matters, communicating effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress and address any concerns or queries.

8. Training and Development:

  • Provide training and support to the design team on BIM software, design standards, and best practices.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to fire protection systems and BIM.

1. Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred but not required.

2. Experience:

  • At least seven years of professional experience in fire protection system design, with at least three years in a managerial or supervisory role.

3. Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in BIM software, such as Autodesk Revit, and a strong understanding of BIM principles and workflows.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm and sprinkler system design, including relevant codes and standards (e.g., NFPA).
  • Experience with project management software and tools.

4. Soft Skills:

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.

5. Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with large-scale industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in BIM Management or a related field.
  • Experience with fire protection system integration in complex industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of LEED or other green building standards.
