Position Purpose |
Dartmouth College Men's Club Ice Hockey is a student-led, highly competitive program committed to fostering leadership, accountability, and personal growth through sport. The Head Coach supports this mission by delivering expert on-ice instruction, event management, mentoring student-athletes, and collaborating with student leaders to ensure a safe, well-organized, and developmentally rich hockey experience. While the team operates within the Club Sports model, it maintains an elevated standard of play, reflective of its ambition to compete at the highest possible level. The coach plays a vital role in cultivating a high-performance team culture, guiding player development, and reinforcing the values that prepare students to excel both on the ice and in life. |
Required Qualifications |
- 2-5+ years of coaching experience, preferably at the high school, junior, or collegiate level.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season).
- Availability to attend evening practices each week during the Fall and Winter terms.
- Ability to travel with the team on weekends for home and away competitions (including occasional multi-game weekends).
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and fostering a respectful team environment.
- Proven ability to mentor young adults in both athletic and leadership contexts.

Coaching/Mentoring - 65%
- Maintain certifications and a professional coaching presence that upholds the standards of Dartmouth College.
- Design and lead purposeful weekly practices with a focus on individual skill development, team strategy, and player growth.
- Coach and supervise home and away games; serve as a role model for sportsmanship and team representation.
- Support and collaborate with student leaders in areas such as team organization, leadership development, and decision-making, in complete alignment with the Club Sports Manual.
- Maintain a positive and competitive environment that emphasizes respect, improvement, and learning.
Administration/Operations - 35%
- Partner with the Sport Administrator and student leaders to advise on fundraising strategies, ensure responsible stewardship of donor contributions, and support parent and alumni relations.
- Engage in regular communication and touchpoints with other Club Sports coaches and Sport Administrator to share best practices, align on expectations, and contribute to a cohesive, high-performing club sports community at Dartmouth College.
- Reinforce compliance with institutional and league safety standards; ensure emergency procedures and eligibility requirements are followed.
- Maintain equipment, participate in assessment of equipment inventory and ordering
- Report issues or incidents with facilities in regards to safety
