Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Systems Engineer to join a multidisciplinary Integrated Product Team (IPT) in support of a major Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition program. This individual will play a central role in architecting, integrating, and delivering advanced system capabilities using software-defined models and microservice-based architectures, as part of a modern digital engineering and open-systems framework.

This role demands an engineer with deep experience across the DoD lifecycle, who can operate effectively at the intersection of software, systems, and mission threads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the decomposition of system-level requirements into modular, software-defined technical architectures that support open, extensible system design.
  • Collaborate across IPTs, including digital architecture, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and matrixed Responsible Engineering Authorities (REAs), to ensure coherent design and implementation.
  • Define service-based system behavior and message exchanges in distributed, microservice-oriented environments. Specifically, support the definition of system level machine-to-machine (M2M) interfaces with larger enterprise networks.
  • Drive development and maintenance of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) artifacts using tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, or Rhapsody.
  • Conduct architecture trades, performance analyses, and risk assessments to support informed decision-making across development phases.
  • Support or performance subsystem and system level analysis to verify/validate requirement compliance.
  • Author and manage interface control documents (ICDs), system requirements specifications, and verification planning documents.
  • Support integration, test, and troubleshooting activities during lab and field events.
  • Ensure system design complies with DoD policies and standards for open systems architectures, software assurance, and cybersecurity (e.g., NIST RMF).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering or other engineering/physics field.
  • 10+ years of systems engineering experience on DoD acquisition programs, with demonstrated involvement in development, integration, or sustainment efforts.
  • Hands-on experience with microservice architectures, containerized solutions (e.g., Docker), and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with software defined modems/radios.
  • Familiarity with software-defined systems, including abstraction, dynamic configuration, and mission software orchestration.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to author technical documents and present material to engineering teams and government stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to brief technical architecture concepts to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders, including customers and program leadership.
  • U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for a DoD security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret or TS/SCI clearance.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage MBSE artifacts in support of system design and integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate mission needs into architectural decisions, including service-oriented decompositions and interface strategies that support multi-domain operations.
  • Experience with software integration in multi-vendor environments, including government reference architectures and collaborative integration baselines.
  • Background in Agile, Scrum, or SAFe methodologies within mission-critical environments.

Strategic and Cross-Division Responsibilities:

Beyond IPT execution, this role will contribute to the division's long-term growth and technical innovation. A selected candidate will have the chance to:

  • Lead and contribute to technology demonstrations, rapid prototyping, and early-phase system exploration focused on mission areas such as space control, SATCOM, SATOPs, radar, and ISR.
  • Help shape and maintain the division's technical product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with evolving customer priorities and program office needs.
  • Support customer engagements with stakeholders, providing technical insights that influence program planning and acquisition strategies.
  • Serve as a technical lead and contributor for proposal development, including white papers, RFI responses, and formal RFP submissions across both R&D and acquisition efforts.
  • Drive internal adoption of digital engineering, DevSecOps, and open architecture practices across IPTs and enterprise initiatives.
  • Mentor junior systems engineers and foster cross-IPT knowledge sharing and capability development.
