Job Description

The Solutions and Analytics Team within Mizzou Online delivers scalable, high-performing analytic dashboards, reports, and insights to stakeholders. We are seeking an analytics engineer to clean, curate and refine data from a variety of higher education sources primarily in BigQuery. The ideal candidate will work closely with data analysts to ascertain the data elements, formats and structure needed for analysis.

The Analytics Engineer will also be required to attend the annual on-site Mizzou Online All Staff Retreat and as business needs dictate. Travel for this position is expected to be minimal.

Core job responsibilities

The person in this position will use advanced SQL techniques to write, optimize and maintain queries. They will create curated data sets and models by extracting, manipulating, transforming and validating data from various higher education databases and sources (IPEDS, Slate, Canvas, student information systems) in GCP BigQuery, documenting the processes and methodologies used.

Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm CST

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates will also be evaluated on the following preferred qualifications that have been demonstrated in a professional setting:

At least one year experience using advanced SQL techniques to curate and refine disparate data for analytics.

  • CTE
  • Subqueries
  • Pivoting/unpivoting
  • Star and/or snowflake schema

At least one year experience working with Higher Education datasets, (e.g., IPEDS, Slate, Canvas, student information systems) and knowledge of data controls and applicable regulatory/legal requirements (FERPA, HIPPA, GLBA, FTC, PCI, etc.) in protecting confidential and/or sensitive data.

Experience working with Google Cloud Platform, particularly BigQuery.

Salary Range: $62,000 - $72,000 per year
