Landscape Specialist / Senior Landscape Specialist

The Landscape Specialist at PGE plays a key role in utility operations in working with customers, field crews, contractors and other stakeholders to provide site preparation, restoration, and maintenance near PGE electrical equipment and work sites.

In this role, you'll work to promote the resiliency of transmission and distribution services. You will be responsible for multiple work types such as landscape, concrete, fencing, tree work and others.

Department: Vegetation Management
Function: Manages vegetation in proximity to electrical facilities to promote resiliency of transmission services.

Career Levels

  • Landscape Specialist - Grade 6 (P2 Intermediate Professional)
    Requires expanded professional knowledge and experience. Operates with moderate guidance and handles increasingly complex tasks.

Compensation: ($74,325 - $104,055 - $123,875)

  • Senior Landscape Specialist - Grade 7 (P3 Career Professional)
    Possesses in-depth knowledge and applies best practices to improve services. Works independently with minimal supervision and acts as a resource for less experienced staff.

Compensation: ($89,175 - $124,845 - $148,625)

Key Responsibilities

Customer Restoration

  • Coordinate restoration of customer landscaping and hardscaping impacted by utility work.
  • Conduct site visits to assess damage, define scope, negotiate mitigation, and recommend alternatives.
  • Resolve customer complaints; senior specialists handle escalated or complex issues and mentor junior staff.

Landscape Maintenance

  • Inspect vegetation and landscaping at PGE substations to ensure operational safety.
  • Identify vegetation risks and coordinate with vendors to address issues.
  • Suggest alternatives and monitor trends to improve vendor performance. Senior specialists lead issue resolution on recurring problems.

Contract Administration

  • Monitor contractor work related to maintenance, construction, and restoration across PGE's service area.
  • Assist in or lead the development of contract specifications and performance guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms. Senior specialists manage multiple contractors and broader scopes of work.

Landscape Planning and Construction

  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to plan landscaping for new or upgraded facilities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on permitting and project approvals.
  • Senior specialists lead project planning, develop procedures for regulatory compliance, and obtain required permits.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Earth Science, Horticulture, Geology, Forestry, Natural Resources, or related field - or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Landscape Specialist: Typically 2+ years in landscape construction, arborist work, construction management or related fields, including vendor and project management.
  • Senior Landscape Specialist: Typically 5+ years in similar roles with more advanced responsibilities.

Certifications

  • Arborist certification, NALP certificate, and pesticide licensure strongly preferred and required within 6 months of hire.

  • Knowledge of forestry processes, tree trimming, pesticide/herbicide application, and vegetation regulations.
  • Intermediate (Landscape Specialist) to Expert-level (Senior Specialist) understanding of vendor management.
  • Ability to solve complex issues and apply critical thinking.

  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Interpersonal skills and organizational awareness suited to collaborative work environments.
  • Senior specialists demonstrate higher leadership, presentation, and mentoring capabilities.

Schedule & Attendance

  • Ability to work a variable or shift schedule, including long hours or on-call availability.
  • Must maintain reliable, full-time attendance, including during severe weather events.

Compensation Range:

$74,325.00 - $148,625.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
