JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Retail Dining is seeking applicants for a part-time job of Receiving Clerk at Cafe' Laura for the Fall 2025 semester.

Cafe Laura (located in the Mateer Building) is actively hiring Penn State students who exhibit elevated levels of professionalism and are committed to providing an exceptional dining experience through authentic service and extraordinary food.

Job duties to include:

  • Manage incoming shipments
  • Verify accuracy against purchase orders and packing lists
  • Ensure proper storage and distribution of products
  • Assist in weekly inventory
  • Label and rotate product according to FIFO standards
  • Stock, clean, and maintain dry storage, refrigeration, and freezer areas
  • Clean various basement areas, storerooms, walk-in refrigerators, receiving areas, and garbage cans
  • Snow and ice removal
  • Collect and dispose of trash in designated areas
  • Maintain work areas and trash areas
  • Clean shelves, windowsills, walls, and windows
  • Replace light bulbs
  • Set up and operate the dish machine
  • Sorting and storing dishes
  • Report all repair issues to a supervisor

Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies:

  • Highly motivated, outgoing, polite, and engaged. Service-minded.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Safety compliance
  • Basic reading and English-speaking abilities
  • Ability to follow directions and adhere to quality expectations and standards
  • Ability to stand for lengthy periods and perform various motor skills
  • Lift 50+ lbs.
  • Reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, squatting, and grasping are required
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance

The shift for this position is from 6:30 am to 10:00 am with no variation possible.

Positions are limited to 20 hours a week. All positions are scheduled Monday-Friday.

Candidates who can work two or more shifts per week will be considered.

  • Compensation: The starting rate for this job is $18/ hour.

Employment eligibility for this posting requires candidates to have a full-time academic enrollment for Fall 2025.
