Summary of Primary Functions: The Safety Manager ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, promotes a culture of safety, and reduces risk. This role involves conducting risk assessments, developing safety protocols, overseeing training programs, and performing safety audits to support a safe and productive workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: All employees are required to follow all Safety and Quality rules and processes to ensure a safe working environment, and the production of high-quality products.

Safety Program Management

  • Implement and enforce company safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits of the manufacturing facility, including equipment, materials handling, and work areas.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, near-misses, and injuries to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain and update safety-related documentation, such as SDSs, training records, and inspection logs.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation

  • Perform hazard assessments, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), in collaboration with supervisors and workers.
  • Identify potential safety risks associated with precast concrete processes, such as crane operations, material handling, confined spaces, and chemical exposure.
  • Recommend and oversee the implementation of engineering and administrative controls to mitigate identified risks.

Training and Communication

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientations, equipment operation, and emergency response procedures.
  • Communicate safety goals, initiatives, and metrics to employees at all levels to foster a culture of safety awareness.
  • Lead toolbox talks and participate in safety committee meetings.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans, including fire evacuation, chemical spill response, and natural disaster protocols.
  • Ensure first aid kits, eyewash stations, and other emergency equipment are readily available and in compliance with regulations.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 1910 General Industry Standards and other relevant safety regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required safety reports and logs, such as OSHA 300/300A, environmental permits, and compliance certifications.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and participate in inspections or audits as needed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze safety metrics and trends to develop strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes, industry best practices, and new safety technologies relevant to precast concrete manufacturing.
  • Participate in company initiatives related to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma to integrate safety considerations into process improvements.

Job Specifications or Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a safety role within a manufacturing or industrial setting (precast concrete or construction experience preferred).
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction Certification required.
  • ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and other regulatory requirements applicable to manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with safety management software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
