Description

As an Authorization Representative, the primary responsibility is to support patient care by obtaining timely insurance authorizations and ensuring payer requirements are met for services provided at The Men's Clinic at UCLA. This includes securing pre-authorizations and referrals for in-clinic procedures, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care, in close coordination with insurance payors, providers, and patients.

In addition to authorization management, the role provides front desk and administrative support within department clinics. Responsibilities include answering and triaging patient phone calls, checking patients in and out, scheduling and confirming appointments, assisting with diagnostic test coordination, and preparing charts and documentation for clinic visits. The position also involves routing requests for medical records and medication refills, assisting with disability and return-to-work forms, and maintaining accurate patient records.

You may be assigned to work at various department clinic locations throughout the community, depending on operational needs, and is expected to provide coverage with a high level of professionalism and patient-centered service. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Salary Range: $30.36 - $43.49 hourly

Qualifications Required:
  • Basic understanding of health insurance workflows, including authorizations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly urology.
  • General knowledge of third party insurances, government programs and other insurance agencies for purposes of assigning financial class codes and obtaining any necessary authorizations for treatment.
  • Ability to research medical diagnosis and procedure codes in CPT Code book and ICD-10_CM code book.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including word-processing, use of spreadsheets and data entry.
  • Ability to understand and correctly use technical terminology, correctly identify and extract data from hospital records, enter data on flow sheets or in computer and maintain study records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with medical, nursing and administrative personnel, regulatory agencies and study sponsors, both verbally and via written reports and memos.
  • Knowledge of University's Electronic Medical Record System.
  • Skill and experience in composing clear and understandable written memos and reports using correct grammar.
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Knowledge of UCLA Health System processes.
  • Skill in communicating with patients, families and referring physicians with diplomacy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, residents, research associates, fellows, students and staff, as well as outside granting agencies.
  • Superior typing skills to prepare correspondence, reports and other written materials with speed and accuracy.
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload and assignments, pressures of deadlines, and/or a heavy workload.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel to department clinics, as assigned
