About the Job

Summary:
This position involves the testing, evaluation and application of advanced bioinformatics tools for analysis of genomic data. The researcher will test and implement both standardized and new software tools used in workflows that integrate different types of genomic data, often evaluating the effects of parameter changes on results and optimizing for best results. This researcher will work collaboratively with bench scientists to analyze data and output results for interpretation and hypothesis generation. This researcher will also collaborate with lab members on data visualization. Working knowledge and technical understanding of different bioinformatics software is expected, which will enable this researcher to work independently to solve problems related to optimizing software and workflows, as well as application to research data generated by other lab members and collaborators.

Essential Functions:
50% Application of software, data analysis, and data visualization for ongoing genomics projects both within the lab and with collaborators. For some projects, members of the lab will be assisted in using these software tools. This may include running data analysis for these projects, and/or training collaborating lab members in their use.

30% Software and workflow testing, evaluation and optimization
New software tools will be tested and evaluated, adjusting parameters to optimize for best results. Where appropriate, this testing will be carried out independently with minimal input from other research team members. In other cases, new software will be implemented needing testing, and will require consultation and direction from other research team members.

20% Assist in publications and presentations
Assistance will be provided in generating manuscripts for publication, conference presentations, workflows and results.

Proven ability to work with a team of other researchers is also essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working at the wet bench and carrying out molecular bioscience research projects is a plus. Experience working in diverse areas of molecular biotechnology, as well as planning and carrying out experiments is also a plus.
