The Drug U.S.E. Lab (Drug Utilization, Safety, and Effectiveness) led by Dr. Ayobami Akenroye in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking a full-time Research Data Analyst. Our lab focuses on studying the real-world use, safety, and effectiveness of monoclonal antibody therapies for asthma and other allergic conditions using administrative claims data, electronic health records (EHR), and biobank-linked clinical data.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated data analyst with experience working with large healthcare datasets to contribute to high impact pharmacoepidemiologic research.
The Lab provides ample opportunities for professional development including mentorship, support for attending scientific conferences, and for successful transition to the next phase of the fellow's career, among other opportunities.
This is a full-time on-site role for a Research Data Analyst, located in Boston, MA. The Research Data Analyst will be responsible for conducting data research and analysis to support various projects. Daily tasks include analyzing large datasets, from administrative claims data and/or electronic health record data, performing market and data research, and using statistical methods to draw conclusions about causal relationships. Main role includes pulling data from EHR/administrative claims, data, and/or Biobank data. Role might also include the use of natural language processing and large language models. The ideal candidate will possess strong data science and analytic skills. Candidate will be required to curate datasets relevant to research questions and will manage all the datasets used by the Lab and ensure they are updated periodically. The role also involves preparing reports and communicating findings to stakeholders clearly and effectively.
Essential Functions
-Provide direct assistance with experimental studies.

-Performs basic computational modeling and statistical analysis; prepares drafts of work for review; applies feedback received to create final analyses and/or reports.

-Meets with the PI and team to discuss work plans, activities, and results to support the applicability of efforts, learning opportunities, and professional development.

-Reviews, collates, and prepares standard analyses of medical record data.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Computational Biology required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required

Experience
Experience as attained through education 0-1 year required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of human pathophysiology, hematologic function, pregnancy physiology and related fields of study.
- Understanding of mathematical modeling, including dynamical systems, statistical analysis, and computational methods.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and with supervision from team members.
- Ability to work productively with scientists and clinicians at all levels.
- Works in an organized manner with the ability to follow instructions, processes and timelines.
- Can identify roadblocks occurring within areas of responsibility and refer them to the appropriate party(s) for assistance.
- Strong computer skills, including accurate data entry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with causal inference methods or advanced statistical modeling.
  • Familiarity with Epic's Clinical Data Model or other clinical EHR systems.
  • Prior research experience in an academic or healthcare setting.
  • Experience with data visualization in R (e.g., ggplot2, Shiny) or Tableau.
  • Understanding of healthcare terminology, coding systems (ICD, CPT, RxNorm, etc.), and clinical workflows.
