Position Summary

The College of Population Health is seeking a highly
motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the Sr. Contract and Grant
Administrator position. The incumbent will conduct research administration support
activities for the College of Population Health (COPH). Research support
includes pre-award and post-award services, accounting and fiscal management, operational
support, exploring funding opportunities, and other COPH research initiatives. This
position will support the COPH as it grows its research infrastructure and
transitions to a School of Public Health.

Incumbent in this position will:

  • Support investigator compliance with all UNM and funding agency policies and regulations related to awarded and sponsored projects.
  • Communicate and collaborate with multiple investigators, granting agencies, the UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) Sponsored Projects Office and HSC Contract & Grant Accounting and other UNM offices and departments related to sponsored project administration.
  • Conduct budget planning and management and assist investigators with interpreting and maintaining grant and contract budgets.
  • Initiate, extend and terminate contracts and sub-contracts in collaboration with institution and community research teams.
  • Initiate, process, and confirm personnel effort distribution and re-distribution on sponsored projects.
  • Work with HSC Sponsored Projects Office and HSC Contract & Grant Accounting to ensure proposed terms and conditions, budgets and corresponding obligations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Assist investigators in complying with reporting requirements.
  • Conduct research closeout activities in collaboration with investigators and other departmental staff.
  • Assist with budget development for proposals and other necessary ancillary proposal documents.
  • Assist with proposal submissions using institution and agency electronic systems.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of COPH policies and processes designed to standardize research administration activities.
  • Contribute to the development of tracking and quality improvement activities to ensure high quality and efficient functioning of COPH research support activities.
  • Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with multiple investigators and community research teams with diverse research and academic backgrounds.
  • General knowledge of accounting in higher education including pre and post-award contract and grants administration.
  • Knowledge and experience with budget development, monitoring, and analyzing budgetary line items for compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge and experience with UNM Pre and Post-award processes.
  • Knowledge of University Policy/Procedures and applicable local, state, and federal guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate financial information and compliance requirements to staff, faculty, leadership, and other professionals
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, primarily, Word and Excel for analysis and interpretation of reports and financial data
  • Knowledge and experience with records maintenance and database management.
