This role resides within the faculty collective bargaining unit.

Primary Function: The Assistant Coordinator of Childcare at Reibman Hall Children's Center supports the daily operations of a high quality early childhood education program. This role assists in managing staff, ensuring compliance with licensing regulations, and fostering a nurturing, play-based learning environment aligned with best practices in early childhood education. The Assistant Director collaborates with families, teachers, and administrators to uphold the center's mission of providing exceptional care and education for young children.

Responsibilities: Administrative & Leadership: (1) Support the Center Coordinator in overseeing daily operations, scheduling, staff management, and providing coverage to coordinator time off, (2) Ensure compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations, Keystone STARS standards, and NAEYC accreditation criteria, (3) Assist with enrollment, family communication, and administrative duties such as maintaining records and reports, (4) Supervise and mentor teaching staff, providing professional development opportunities and performance feedback, and (5) Act as the point person in the Director's absence, making decisions and handling concerns as needed. Program & Curriculum Support: (1) Collaborate with teachers to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with Project Based Learning and Art as a Way of Learning and other center philosophies, (2) Support teachers in lesson planning, classroom management, and fostering a child-centered, inquiry-based learning environment, (3) Monitor classroom environments to ensure they reflect best practices in early childhood education, and (4) Assist in coordinating special events, community partnerships, and family engagement activities. Family & Community Engagement: (1) Foster positive relationships with families through open communication, conferences, and support services, (2) Address parent concerns and provide resources to support family involvement in their child's education, and (3) Represent the center in community outreach efforts and college-related events.

Organizational Relationships: (1) Responsible to the Reibman Hall Childcare Coordinator. (2) Supervises and provides leadership/support to Childcare Center teaching staff. (3) Work closely and cooperatively with administrative staff, faculty, and relevant external personnel on professional matters of mutual interest and concern.

Performance Standards: Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1) mutually agreed upon objectives are met within a specified time frame; (2) responsibilities of the position have been carried out at a level of performance consistent with objectives; (3) effective cooperative relationships exist with other administrators, faculty, students, and other members of the community; (4) leadership competencies are exhibited in a manner consistent with institutional norms such that positive team/employee relations are fostered and employee developmental needs are proactively addressed.

Qualifications: (1) Education: Bachelor's degree from a Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) approved Institutional Accreditor (2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Knowledge of play-based learning, child development, and early childhood education best practices. (3) Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in early childhood education, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred. (4) Certifications: Must meet Pennsylvania Director Credential requirements or be willing to obtain. Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification required or must be obtained upon hire.
