The Department of Management and Organization (M&O) in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University seeks an Instructor of Management to start in the Fall of 2026.

Instructors in the Smeal College of Business are hired on multi-year contracts (following a probationary period), are expected to teach 21 credits per academic year (or its equivalent), and are eligible for promotion (ranks of Instructor, Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, and Teaching Professor or Professor of Practice).

Job Requirement: Instructors in the Smeal College of Business have a primary focus on teaching and contributing to the teaching mission of the school by bringing business knowledge, experiences, and perspectives to the classroom and by advancing the goal of student-centeredness. A successful teaching record is therefore required. Classes may be a mixture of undergraduate and/or graduate level courses. Onsite teaching is an essential function of the job.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual who will enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and collaborative departmental environment. The position is an ideal appointment for individuals wishing to concentrate on:

  • teaching courses in management in a business setting

  • performing related activities such as mentoring and advising students

The Department of Management and Organization is consistently ranked in the top-20 management departments for its research productivity and values high-level theoretical and empirical ability, collegiality and collaboration among its members, and the ability to teach management and organizational concepts effectively to multiple audiences. Our department offers two undergraduate majors (Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Management), two online masters programs (Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Strategic Management and Executive Leadership), a PhD program, courses in Smeal's full-time MBA and DBA programs, courses in Smeal's part-time hMBA, and operates the Farrell Center for Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship (which includes the Garber Venture Capital Fund). Our tenure-line faculty are Carolyn Dang, Raghu Garud, Don Hambrick, Stephen Humphrey, Trevor Israelsen, Margaret Luciano, Peter Madsen, Vilmos Misangyi, Semin Park, Tessa Recendes, Kira Schabram, Paul Shrivastava, Linda Trevino, Wenpin Tsai, Kate Wang, Dani Yin, and Rui Zhong. Our nontenure-line clinical faculty are Shawn Clark, Jamey Darnell, Jeanette Miller, Lisa O'Hara, Ozge Pala, and Angela Schwartz.
