Provide services as a member of a multi-disciplinary, health-care team in a tertiary-level setting. Performs speech/communicative assessment, diagnosis and treatment for children and young adults with speech/communication disorders in a clinical outpatient setting for children with developmental disabilities. Prepares for individual patient/family contact.
- Reviews relevant records and reports and consults with appropriate clinical team members as necessary.
- Prepares equipment/materials/space for session.
Conducts diagnostic and follow up evaluations.
- Selects, administers and interprets appropriate communication assessment tools and procedures for each patient. Provides diagnosis of patients' communication status.
- Maintains skills/competency related to equipment, assessment tools and procedures common to the patient population of CDD.
Develops and/or implements appropriate treatment plan.
- Makes appropriate recommendations for speech/language therapy goals. Predicts potential benefit to patient from clinical work.
- Provides treatment/therapy for patients with speech/communicative disorders.
- Maintains skills/competency related to special equipment and procedures common to the patient population of CDD.
Completes patient report and billing documentation according to UI Healthcare and CDD guidelines and timelines.
- Completes written medical record of patient contact, following department, CDD and UI Healthcare policies.
- Submits billing documentation to support each billed procedure, following department, CDD and UI Healthcare policies.
- Submits record of telephone contacts and other unscheduled visits into electronic patient record.
Provides Patient/family education
- Identifies patient/family education needs.
- Counsels patients, families and others concerning the management of the patient's communication disorder.
- Utilizes education resources from department, CDD and other sources of information.
Performs all duties in a manner that is consistent with service leadership and family-centered care expectations.
- Communicates and provides services in a manner that respects the family's' role as primary caregiver. Works to meet the individualized needs and goals of the patient and family.
- Demonstrates accountability for quality patient care and resource management.
- Demonstrates commitment to the CDD mission, vision, performance standards, and strategic intents.
Assures compliance to the standards of regulatory bodies (i.e JCAHO and other regulatory bodies).
- Participates in the ongoing implementation of current regulatory standards in order to meet state and national agency accreditation.
- Maintains required mandatory skills and certifications.
- Assumes responsibility for promoting and maintaining a safe patient care and work environment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Develops and confirms an understanding of the subject matter required to complete the assigned tasks.
- Completes the assigned tasks within established timelines and accuracy standards.
- Reporting problems/delays to appropriate authorities and seeks guidance to rectify the issues.

Required Qualifications: * A Master's degree in speech pathology. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. * Temporary State of Iowa Speech Pathology License at time of hire. Desired Qualifications: * Experience providing services in a healthcare setting and working as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. * Experience working with children and young adults with development disabilities. * Experience with evaluation and treatment utilizing augmentative and alternative communication. * Experience using an electronic medical record system. |
