Nature of Work: The Threat Assessment Coordinator (TAC) position within the Omaha Police Department (OPD) is responsible for coordinating, training, and facilitating the Threat Assessment and Management Team (TAMT) program and the Douglas County School Threat Assessment Team (DCSTAT). The TAC manages all related grant responsibilities and data integrity, serves as the link between community service providers, school districts, participants, mental health professionals, and law enforcement. Work is performed with considerable independence; however general supervision and direction is received from an assigned supervisor.

Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.

1)Bachelor's Degree in psychology, criminal justice, or a related field AND One (1) year of experience in crisis assessment, adult and child mental health, substance abuse counseling, working with individuals with developmental disabilities, or behavioral threat assessment and management,
OR
2)An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications: Successful completion of the Crisis Intervention Team or Crisis Response Intervention Team training by the end of the probationary period.

Must be able to transport oneself or coordinate transportation to work sites throughout the City and surrounding communities during the course of the work day.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends and evenings as agreed upon with the supervisor.

Master's Degree in a psychology or criminal justice field is preferred

Mental Health Professional licensure or Certificated Threat Manager is preferred.

Pay Range: $77,584.00 with step increases to $93, 537.60 Annually

Examination Information: The examination will consist of a training and experience form designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position. The training and experience form will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to test for the position. The form must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Department by August 7, 2025 (passing score 60%). Final eligibility list will be the training and experience form weighted 100%.

Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by July 30, 2025.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of school security, threat assessment, mental health, and community-based mental health.
  • Knowledge of behavioral threat assessment techniques.
  • Skill in active listening, critical analysis, and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with other city employees, team members, and the public.
  • Ability to effectively present information to interested groups and individuals via group presentations and/or written materials.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the general public, and community partners in the areas of school safety, law enforcement, mental health, and with advocacy groups.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software.
  • Ability to perform assignments in a timely manner with accuracy and proper detail.
  • Ability to sit continuously, to stand and walk frequently, and reach, bend, stoop, push and pull occasionally.
  • Ability to move objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds occasionally.

  • Manages, reviews, and assigns all reports of concerning behavior through various reporting platforms.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current cases and coordinates with involved entities related to the cases to include outreach, follow up and monitoring.
  • Identifies and coordinates efforts with TAM team members, multi-disciplinary partners, and other entities as appropriate to manage the threat of violence by providing available resources to potential victim(s) and the individual being assessed.
  • Assists with the development, facilitation and expansion of related training needs of the Department.
  • Coordinates and leads executive committee meetings, including maintaining meeting minutes, developing agendas and meeting regularly with the TAMT and DCSTAT teams.
  • Assists with the development and expansion of the TAMT and DCSTAT programs including development of policies, procedures, operations manuals and grant writing needs or fundraising efforts.
  • Collects and maintains information and data.
  • Maintains familiarity and compliance with any grant requirements to include preparing and submitting reports as needed regarding the threat assessment and management programs.
  • Conducts presentations as needed for the public and OPD.
  • Recruits new members to threat assessment-related teams from identified community partners as needed for the program.
  • Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
