About the Job

This position reports to the Director for St. Paul Facilities and is responsible for the maintenance of the St. Paul Gymnasium and University Recreation and Wellness (URW) outdoor facilities in Minneapolis and St. Paul. This position must be prepared to work flexible hours. Though assisted at times, by part-time/student employees, this position is expected to perform most of the assigned maintenance tasks directly. This position requires problem solving and decision making on repair and maintenance items, including field maintenance and custodial issues on a daily basis. This position oversees approximately 5 student custodial workers who mow fields, shovel around the Recreation and Wellness Sports Field Complex (Dome), general cleaning of the St Paul Gymnasium and Dome sites, and assisting with other facility cleaning and maintenance projects.The typical hours are 9a-5:30p, Tuesday-Saturday, on-site, with occasional weekends to oversee significant events.

Responsibilities:
Outdoor Facility Maintenance (45%)
* Assess and identify daily conditions of departmental outdoor facility areas and utilize independent judgment in prioritizing and performing grounds maintenance.
* Seasonal care of outdoor facilities which includes all departmental Sports Fields located on the Minneapolis East Bank and West Bank campuses as well as St. Paul campus
* Prepare and set up fields for various sports at URW Sports Field Complex, West Bank Fields, and St. Paul Fields which includes ground repair, seeding, irrigation, mowing, trimming, and lining of all fields including the artificial turf field as needed.
* Removal of trash for all outdoor facilities
* Coordinate maintenance of the clubhouses, storage areas and field equipment.
* Performs and coordinates grounds crew duties with the assistance of student employees.
* Maintain and care food outdoor tennis court surface and equipment adjacent to the St. Paul Gymnasium
* Operate motorized equipment, i.e., mowers, tractors, snow removal equipment, departmental utility vehicle, departmental truck, etc.
* Assist with set-up and take down of the Dome
* Coordinate and assist in snow removal from around the Dome with the help of departmental full-time staff, student staff, UMN Landcare, and ROTC
* Schedule student employees for day-to-day operations and special events
* Coordinate storage usage for both the support and cold storage buildings
* Purchase and maintain inventory of facility, field maintenance, and rental equipment
* Use independent judgment and problem solving skills to minimize risk Building and Grounds
Indoor Facility Maintenance (45%)
* Assess and identify daily indoor conditions at the St. Paul Gymnasium and utilize independent judgment in prioritizing and performing custodial/maintenance duties
* Responsible for overseeing daytime custodial/maintenance/cleaning responsibilities of the St.Paul Gymnasium
* Clean and maintain handball/racquetball and squash courts, including floors, walls, glass, etc. at the St. Paul Gymnasium
* Clean and maintain gyms and multipurpose rooms including the floors and glass at the St. Paul Gymnasium.
* Clean and maintain corridors and building entrance (interior and exterior) at the St. Paul Gymnasium
* Clean and maintain sauna area as well as the Equipment Room at the St. Paul Gymnasium
* Maintain and care for sports nets, dividing nets, backboards, and other equipment at the St. Paul Gymnasium
* Inspect and replace room lights as needed and other necessary utilities at the St. Paul Gymnasium.
* Maintenance and equipment inspections of fitness equipment for mechanical, electrical, diagnosis of problems.
* Light fitness repairs, cable replacement, upholstery work, belts, batteries, etc. Specific tasks associated with assigned facilities, which include, bur are not limited to:
* Assist with organizing annual maintenance shutdown of facilities
* Assist the Sr. Building and Grounds Worker with event set-ups and major projects in Mpls/St.Paul
* Assist the Director of St. Paul Facilities with long-term maintenance plans, facility coverage, employee scheduling, facility inspections, ordering/maintaining equipment, and coordinating work with various vendors and contractor
* Assist with facility setup and cleanup associated with departmental summer Youth Program Day Camps.
* Assist the Sr. B&G with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of approximately 5 student B&G's, cleaning of equipment, and field maintenance
* Ensure student employees are trained on safety in the workplace, proper use of equipment, problem solving skills, enforcement of building and fire codes, and facility policies
Other 10%
* Provide support in getting estimates, researching products and communicating
* Assist in handling emergency situations within URW facilities
* Attend full staff meetings
* Carry out other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
* Three years of experience in building and grounds work.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $46,113.00 to $56,368.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
