Head Women's Club Ice Hockey Coach (PT)

Under the direction of the Director of the Student Center and Fitness & Recreation, the Women's Club Ice Hockey Coach is responsible for the coaching, management, and operations of the Curry College Women's Ice Hockey Club Team. The responsibilities of the coach are those traditionally assigned to an intercollegiate coach, including administrative responsibilities. The Head Coach will supervise and delegate certain functions to the Volunteers and student leaders.

This position is a , academic year appointment.

Essential Functions:

1. Coaching Duties:
  • Coach and manage Women's Club Ice Hockey team; assure emphasis on player development of skills and game strategies are effectively taught;
  • Create and maintain engaging and specific practice drills appropriate for the current roster ;
  • Coordinate the practice/game schedule with the Director of Fitness and Recreation and Cadillac Ice Arena;
  • Maintain a positive relationship with rink management, staff, referees, and all other league affiliates;
  • Maintain team rosters including contact, emergency and insurance information;
  • Inventory and maintain team equipment such as uniforms, pucks, cones, extra gear, etc;
  • Maintain and further develop coaching education with national standards.

2. Team Administration:
  • Act as the primary liaison between Curry College and the Independent Women's Club Hockey League (IWCHL);
  • Coordinate student athlete IWCHL membership, completion of all Curry paperwork and ensures IWCHL compliance;
  • Develop and manage team budget in conjunction with Director of Fitness and Recreation;
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely manner (i.e., rosters; eligibility forms; purchase orders; reimbursements, end-of-season reports, etc.);
  • Coordinate with Club E-board and Director of Fitness and Recreation for transportation and food for away-games;
  • In charge of distribution, collection, and inspection of all related equipment;
  • Meet regularly with Director of Fitness and Recreation during season and in the offseason;
  • Coordinate and engage players in fundraising efforts throughout the year to support the growth of the program through institutional campaigns and team specific initiatives.

3. Team Success:
  • Build student athletes' respect for themselves, their teammates, their opponents, their coaches, and their sport. Communicate to student athletes in a positive manner;
  • With assistance from Club E-board, work to create positive team atmosphere and mediate disputes between players;
  • Develop commitment of team members to team success;
  • Work with Club E-board and Volunteer Coaches on game preparation, film review, practice scheduling;
  • Communicate regularly with team in person and via email.

4. Student Success and Retention:
  • Respond effectively to concerns expressed by student athletes about athletic and non-athletic issues, including keeping Director of Fitness & Recreation informed;
  • Support the colleges recruiting and retention program while maintaining a squad size of student athletes within the range of your sport, minimum 15;
  • Refer students to appropriate office on campus to address concerns (Academic Support, Counseling, Residence Life, Financial Aid). Follow-up when appropriate;
  • Attend Open House dates and Accepted Students Day as well as any other campus wide student engagement event, if no match is scheduled.

Additional Functions:
  • Comply with IWCHL policy, rules, and department policy and procedures;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee;
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience coaching club hockey at the collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of the rules of Hockey as governed by USA Hockey.
  • Strong management and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations involving students.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to work evening and weekends and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience playing Club Ice Hockey at the collegiate level preferred;
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Compensation:

$5,000 stipend.
