Overview / Job Summary:

The Faculty for Patient Care Technician (PCT) & Phlebotomy/EKG is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering high-quality instruction in the PCT program. This includes creating lesson plans, assessing student performance, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure that the curriculum meets current industry standards. Knowledge of the following curriculum is vital- CLIA waived laboratory testing, highly skilled in venipuncture and capillary draws, order of draw, laboratory safety and infection control, electrocardiography procedures (12 lead EKGs), 5-step rhythm interpretations (rhythm, rate, p wave, PR interval, and QRS duration). The intent of this position is to prepare students to become skilled and competent Patient Care Technicians and Phlebotomy/EKG Technicians.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary, but are not limited to:

  • Creating and uploading appropriate course syllabi for each course to the Learning Management System.
  • Keeping students informed and updated concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Maintaining accurate academic records, including grading, census rosters, and attendance records.
  • Evaluating student progress toward achieving course outcomes and competencies.
  • Maintaining industry credentials as appropriate to the teaching area.
  • Developing and recommending curriculum changes that enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Ability to work with little supervision in various high schools.

The instructor will foster a dynamic learning environment that supports student success, encourages engagement, and incorporates relevant clinical practices in health care.

Requirements

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills Needed:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age, read, speak, and write the English language, required.
  • Strongly prefer prior teaching experience, especially in high school education settings.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills - must be able to work with students, technical and administrative personnel in a pleasant, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the healthcare field and regulations is preferred.
  • Ability to apply technology as a teaching tool, specifically through the use of Learning Management Systems is preferred.
  • Current certifications in Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, or Medical Assisting are highly desired.
  • Other Certifications considered- EMT/Paramedic, RN/LPN, Respiratory Therapist, or other medical certifications that possess the knowledge of venipunctures, laboratory testing, and electrocardiography technologies.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
