POSITION SUMMARY:

The Qualitative Interviewer will work with the Principal Investigator and research team on the study "Community Engaged Development of a Peer Breastfeeding Support Intervention for Mothers with Opioid Use Disorder funded by the National Institute for Drug Abuse (NIH). The qualitative interviewer will assist in designing interview protocols, conduct focus groups and interviews, and analyze collected data.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develop interview guides that align with the research objectives and facilitate one-one-one semi-structed interviews or focus groups
  • Build rapport with participants by responding in empathetic ways, asking open-ended questions, creating comfortable and engaging environment during focus groups and interviews, and actively listening while maintaining impartiality
  • Use knowledge of qualitative methods, recovery and infant feeding/caretaking to ensure interviews elicit information that meets study objectives
  • Record, transcribe, and analyze data accurately and consistently to capture participant responses and identify key themes, patterns, and insights
  • Coordinate with research team to implement the planning and scheduling of interviews
  • Adhere to research protocol and ethical guidelines to maintain the privacy of the participants as required by the institutional and federal policies
  • Communicate research findings to researchers

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience with people with substance use disorders, or lived experience of addiction/recovery and parenting.
  • Previous experience in conducting in-depth interviews or focus groups preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Knowledgeable about qualitative research methods and data collection strategies
  • Proficiency in coding, thematic analysis, and other qualitative data analysis techniques, or willingness to learn these techniques
  • Experience with digital recording tools and qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo), including Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Collaborative approach to working in a multi-person, interdisciplinary team Interest in recovery, maternal-child health and parenting
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to the accuracy and completeness of collected data
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with persons of varying educational, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
