Essential Job Duties
NC State University is seeking a qualified Temporary Benefits Deductions Specialist to support our Team during a transitional period. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong payroll and accounting skills, and familiarity with HRIS systems such as PeopleSoft is highly preferred.
In this role, you will be responsible for administering benefit-related payroll deductions (health, retirement, disability, etc.), performing data reconciliations, preparing remittance files, and resolving discrepancies with vendors and payroll. You will also support employee inquiries through our HR Now case management system, ensuring timely and accurate service.
This is a great opportunity to contribute to a high-impact team that supports over 10,000 employees across the university. We're looking for someone who can step in quickly, work collaboratively, and help maintain operational continuity.

Requirements and Preferences


Work Schedule 8 am - 5:00 pm, M- F
Other Work/Responsibilities

  • Administering benefit-related payroll deductions (health, retirement, disability, etc.)
  • Performing data reconciliations and remittance file preparations
  • Resolving vendor and payroll discrepancies
  • Supporting employee inquiries through our HR Now system
  • Serve as a backup for team members as needed to ensure continuity of operations during peak periods, absences, or team transitions.


Minimum Experience/Education
  • Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Department Required Skills

  • At least one year of experience in benefits, payroll, accounting, or HRIS-related work.
  • Basic knowledge of employee benefit programs and their interaction with payroll deduction processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and comfort working with large datasets.


Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Two or more years of experience in benefits administration, payroll processing, or financial reconciliation within a large organizations
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Familiarity with benefit plan structures and rules, including health, disability, life, retirement,
  • Experience managing employee inquiries or casework using a service management platform such as HR Now or ServiceNow.
