Job Profile Summary
Summary Provides a variety of duties to support the departmental needs. Depending in the intern assignment, tasks can vary from laboratory and research assistance. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions -Assists with in-person data collection. -Assists with research experiences. -Prepares for study visits including organizing paperwork, setting up equipment, and preparing study materials. -Assists with subject scheduling. -Assists with other research-related office tasks as needed. -Processes collected data. Education Position Overview: In this role, you will work with a multidisciplinary group of researchers on drug delivery systems. You will run and maintain multiple 3D printers (SLA, DLP, Polyjet and FDM), a CNC mill, a laser cutter, and other mechanical fabrication/testing equipment. Additionally, you will assist in prototyping and testing drug delivery systems. Responsibilities: - Work with PhD students and postdocs to design and prototype drug delivery systems via 3D printing/machining - Operate and maintain mechanical fabrication/testing equipment Formulate and perform chemical/mechanical characterization of polymeric materials for drug delivery - Execute statistical analysis of experiments Summarize and document research results/findings Required Qualications & Skills: Pursuing a B.S. or equivalent in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field; at least 6 months of relevant experience (co-op and internships considered). An ideal candidate will have a research background in biomedical engineering as well as hands-on experience/rapid prototyping skills. However, candidates will have the opportunity to learn/improve upon both technical and personal skills. Candidates with relevant experience in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: - CAD/CAM (SolidWorks or Fusion360) - Biomedical device design and development - Material characterization (biomaterials and plastics, experience with Instron testing machines a plus) - Additive manufacturing/3D Printing (FDM and SLA) - Subtractive manufacturing (manual and CNC machining) - Plastic injection molding (extrusion, injection molding, and compression molding) Drug delivery/pharmaceutical sciences Candidate must have self-motivation and willingness to learn new tools and techniques; strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; comfort summarizing and reporting results to interdisciplinary researchers; commitment to exceeding standards and producing accurate, high-quality work; meticulous attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
