Job Summary |
The Office of Student Volunteerism (
OSV) at the University of Texas at Dallas is committed to enriching the lives of UT Dallas students through engagement opportunities and utilizing them as resources to address the immediate and long-term needs of our local, global, and campus communities through service, reflection, education, and partnerships.
OSV empowers Comets to become local and global leaders who engage, understand, respond, and advocate for sustainable solutions to address community issues and needs.
The Director of
OSV will develop and execute strategies to achieve the department's mission, vision, and goals, and build on an already vibrant array of community engagement programs and events. Including Alternative Spring Break, VolunTemoc, and the
UTD Community Garden. They will oversee departmental operations, including: strategic planning, program assessment, budget forecasting, fiscal monitoring, risk management, and ensuring compliance with university rules and policies. The Director of
OSV is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising three professional staff, and 5-10 student leaders. They will monitor job performance through weekly meetings and annual evaluations. They will also serve as an advocate for community-based learning and head up all departmental communications, marketing, promotions and public relations. The Office of Student Volunteerism is in the Division of Student Affairs under the Dean of Students Office and the Director will report to the Associate Dean of Student for Student Engagement Initiatives. |
Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related progressive experience. |
Preferred Education and Experience |
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant area.
- Five years of professional experience working in a related field of expertise.
- Direct community service experience.
- Experience working with community partners and agencies.
- Valid driver's license.

- Compelling interpersonal skills with a capacity to build positive partnerships and establish credibility with a wide range of constituents, both internal and external.
- Knowledge of program design, implementation strategies, and evaluation methods.
- Ability to design and implement service programs that meet student learning outcomes and achieve desired co-curricular goals.
- Proven ability to work independently and in a highly collaborative team environment
- Ability to multitask in a high-energy environment, including working on multiple programs simultaneously
- Demonstrated reliability and project follow-through
- Excellent judgment and diplomacy required
- Strong customer service skills
- Highly motivated and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Flexibility and willingness to participate in seasonal domestic travel
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, mentoring, and coaching skills
- Experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- Together with OSV professional staff, shape a coherent and compelling vision for community engagement work at UT Dallas that encompasses students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Manage UTD's version of the GivePulse platform, EngageUTD, for the entire campus and community partners by providing training & support, managing registration details, creating/editing accounts, posting volunteer opportunities, and approving volunteer hours.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of signature OSV programs and events, including Alternative Spring Break, VolunTemoc, UTD Community Garden, Earth Week, Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, MLK Day of Service, Bruce August Jr. Juneteenth Day of Service, Volunteer Expo, and others.
- Cultivate, expand, and strengthen relationships with a diverse set of community partners.
- Oversee $400k+ departmental budget. Engage in ongoing fiscal monitoring, forecasting, and reporting.
- Oversee departmental staff, which includes 3 professional and administrative staff. Support and promote the staff's strong ethic of teamwork and professional development.
- Oversee 5-10 student leaders and manage their development through various leadership opportunities and a professional development and training program.
- Implement and refine ongoing assessment of the impact of the OSV's programs and ensure that they are cohesive with divisional and university-wide strategic planning and priorities.
- Promote collaboration between the OSV and other campus offices, academic departments, and programs.
- Serve as a member of the Dean of Students Board of Directors and the Vice President of Student Affairs Leadership Team
- Participate in university-wide committees as a representative of OSV
- Serve as the primary point of contact for department's communications, marketing, promotions, and public relations.
- Ensure that the work of the OSV is communicated effectively via print and electronic media to its constituents, both on campus and in the larger community.

Remote Work Notice
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the
DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
Preference may be given to internal applicants.
