HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Director of Environmental Health & Safety creates an environment of risk awareness and promotes a culture of risk reduction. This position directs the overall Risk Management program including ensuring regulatory compliance. This position reports to the Vice President of Risk Management.

WHAT YOU WILL DO



  • Supports risk management by proactively communicating identified risks to the organization in order to minimize risk when possible.
  • Ensures Environmental Health & Safety regulatory compliance including developing, evaluating and administering policies.
  • Performs inspections for potential risks and hazards, accident and injury investigation and recommend corrective action or mitigating measures as needed.
  • Manages the Employee Safety Training program including working closely with Human Resources on reducing the number of workplace incidents and promoting a culture of safety awareness.
  • Tracks and reports on risk management capabilities including milestones, benchmarks and make recommendations for organization wide improvements.
  • Implements, maintains, and enforces work instructions based on Cal-OSHA regulations and best practices.
  • Establishes and maintains related regulatory records and files in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Acts as liaison to outside regulatory agencies including Cal-Osha and other governmental entities.
  • Provides guidance and direction to Safety Representative at organization's campuses.
  • Provides leadership during emergency evacuation and crisis response situations.


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
JOB EXPERIENCE



  • 7+ years' experience with OSHA requirements required.
  • Years 7+ years experience managing a team required.
  • 7+ years of experience in Risk Management required.
  • Experience in a zoo or entertainment attraction preferred.


EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Safety Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, environment health, a physical science or a related field or equivalent specialized training required.
  • HAZWOPER - 40 hour training preferred



SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE



  • Strong working knowledge of basic chemical and biological safety procedures and applicable regulations and laws.
  • Strong working knowledge of how to identify and evaluate safety risks.
  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Able to handle highly complex interpersonal situations with a high level of tact and diplomacy.
  • Able to operate moderately complex computer software programs.
  • Able to work effectively with individuals, groups, or teams in a diverse environment.
