Summary

MSOE invites applications for a part-time Lab Technician to join our dedicated School of Nursing team. Reporting to the Lab Manager, the Lab Technician will be responsible for assisting in the nursing skills lab and simulation center. This individual will assist students who are strengthening their nursing skills and participate in psychomotor skill performance testing of students. They will also be involved with the set-up and take down of labs and simulations and ensuring a clean and organized work environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with students in facilitated lab to ensure evidence-based best practice in performance skills.
  • Help students to develop clinical reasoning in the performance of psychomotor skills.
  • Conduct psychomotor skill performance testing (Head-to-toe assessment, vital signs)
  • Assist faculty in NUR lab courses
  • Finalize simulation set-up and assist with debriefing.
  • Operate and Manage simulation equipment


This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organization and cleaning of lab space
  • Attending training sessions
  • Attending course meetings as needed


Qualifications

  • BS in Nursing required
  • Current and unencumbered Nursing License
  • Current CPR - BLS Certification
  • Knowledge and proficiency with basic psychomotor skills
  • Effective communication in a variety of forms (verbal, e-mail, text, phone, some social media)
  • Effective at problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to collaborate well with others
  • Experience with simulation preferred


Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before others. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to use numbers to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.


Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, talk or hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 50 lbs.


Work Environment

  • This job operates in an office and laboratory environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers, as well as laboratory equipment seen in the field of nursing.
