Job Summary

Under the direction Principal Investigator (PI) Linda C. Giudice, MD, PhD at the Center for Reproductive Sciences, Department of OBGYN/RS at UCSF, the Laboratory of Human Endometrial Biology, Functional Genomics, and Stem Cell Research conducts experimental research on cellular/molecular aspects of human endometrial function in health and disease. It also runs the Human Endometrial Tissue and DNA Bank, a repository of human endometrial tissue and blood samples made available to UCSF and extramural investigators for use in research on endometrial biology and endometrial disorders having an impact on female reproductive function and women's well-being.

As part of these efforts, the Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) will be responsible for supporting lab staff and trainees in laboratory work and special projects with the PI and will be under the guidance of the PI/Lab Director and senior lab staff. Research studies include multi-omics approaches to characterize endometrial cells at the single cell level for cell feature discovery, drug target and diagnostic development for uterine disorders, including endometriosis, adenomyosis, and uterine fibroids. The incumbent will be responsible for obtaining biospecimens processed through the UCSF Biospecimen Processing Lab and transfer and store them in the Giudice Lab, updating the Tissue Bank inventory, as well as manage lab equipment (service contracts, repair), main lab ordering and lab safety/compliance. In addition, the SRA I will assist conduct data entry/subject annotation in Red Cap database, coordination of routine biospecimen analysis, and processing investigators' requests and distribution of Tissue Bank biospecimens. The SRA will also participate in retrieving/organizing and/or analyzing existing data from the Tissue Bank database for presentation/publication, grant submissions, and other reports. The incumbent will also engage in additional lab administrative/research duties and special projects, as assigned by the PI. The incumbent must adhere to mandatory laboratory health and safety practices and comply with human subjects protection/HIPAA and all other applicable institutional, state, and federal regulations. The SRA is expected to keep complete and accurate records of Tissue Bank and lab activities and report weekly to the PI, attend weekly lab meetings, communicate status of ongoing activities and relevant developments/issues, and participate in group discussions, providing input and perspective.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Ob/Gyn & RS) is a major academic Department in the School of Medicine (SOM), engaged in clinical, research, and training activities at the Parnassus, Mt. Required Qualifications

• BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Excellent ability to communicate analyses orally & in writing.
• Excellent organizational skills & record keeping.
• Proficiency in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop.
• Cooperative attitude and works well in team.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of anatomy and function of the human female reproductive system.
• Ability to identify and handle human tissue/blood biospecimens.
• Knowledge on procedures for safe and proper handling of human blood-borne pathogen biospecimens, and ability to work with potentially infectious/known infectious human biospecimens.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with standard lab cell/molecular assays for cell, protein, RNA, DNA analyses (may be that which is acquired while in school).
• Experience with human primary cell culture (may be that which is acquired while in school).
• Experience working with potentially infectious/known infectious human biospecimens, and with human primary cells/tissues in the female reproductive tract and pregnancy (may be that which is acquired while in school).
• Experience with laboratory work including human tissue handling/processing for various applications, cell isolation, and cell culture (may be that which is acquired while in school).
• Experience with methods of statistical analysis (may be that which is acquired while in school).
• Experience with laboratory operations and biosafety (may be that which is acquired while in school).
