Decision Support Analyst

Under the direction of Dental Clinic leadership, the Decision Support Analyst supports data reporting and analysis needs in collaboration with university stakeholders. This role is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining moderately complex to complex reports, queries, and data views that provide meaningful, actionable insights. The analyst works with diverse data sources to produce user-friendly reports, improve efficiencies through self-service or scheduled data delivery, and assist with ad hoc reporting.

Key responsibilities include analyzing and preparing data based on business needs, collaborating with end users to validate requirements, coordinating testing, and ensuring report functionality following system upgrades or patches. The role also involves maintaining a comprehensive inventory of reports and processes, documenting workflows, managing development and testing environments, and utilizing Team Dynamix to manage requests and workflows.

The analyst also provides end-user support and training, develops training materials, and contributes to process improvements that enhance reporting capabilities for the university.

Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Data Management, BIA and/or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years combined experience in one or more of the following:

    • Crystal Reports, Tableau, Power BI, SAS, SSRS, or similar tools.
    • Coding queries and stored procedures against normalized data structures
    • Creating and managing queries using SQL, SQL+, TOAD or similar tools


  • Experience creating Business Intelligence reports and dashboards using more detailed or advanced business intelligence tools (Oracle SQL Developer, Tableau, Power BI, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g.,Oracle) Experience with clinical or patient data systems, such as electronic health records (EHR/EMR) and dental practice management software (e.g., axiUm) preferred.
  • Higher Education and/or Health Care/Dental Industry experience preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts and ability to analyze and model relational data structures to support reporting and dashboard development.
  • Ability to communicate a data story with visualization and other techniques.
  • Skilled in designing clear, impactful reports and dashboards to support School of Dentistry needs.
  • Ability to translate moderately complex business requirements into technical solutions
  • Proficient in writing well-structured queries that combine aggregate and detailed data, including handling null values and ensuring data accuracy
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and mitigate integrity issues through data scrubbing, quality checks, and usability analysis.
  • Practical knowledge of one or more of the following: Crystal Reports, Power BI, MS SQL Server, Tableau, Oracle SQL Developer or similar tools
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (HIPAA, FERPA, CODA).
