What you will do-

The Senior R&D Lab Technician plays a key role in supporting the development and testing of Aspen's advanced aerogel materials. This position is responsible for independently executing and documenting a variety of physical, thermal, and chemical tests while also supporting equipment troubleshooting, method refinement, and mentoring junior technicians. The Senior Technician ensures accurate, high-quality data generation in support of product development, manufacturing, and continuous improvement efforts.

How will you do it-

1. Laboratory Testing & Characterization



  • Independently perform routine and non-routine physical, thermal, and chemical tests on lab-prepared and production materials.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain a range of analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC, GPC, BET, TG/DSC, compression/tensile frames, HFM/GHP).
  • Perform advanced sample preparation and analysis with attention to test accuracy and repeatability.


2. Method Development & Troubleshooting




    • Serve as the primary operator and technical contact for selected instrumentation and test methods.
    • Identify and troubleshoot issues with equipment and test results; coordinate with engineering or vendors as needed.
    • Propose and support improvements to test methods and procedures.


    3. Data Management & Reporting




      • Record, analyze, and interpret experimental data using lab notebooks and digital systems.
      • Assist in drafting or updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
      • Generate high-quality test reports for internal use and documentation.


      4. Team Support & Collaboration




        • Support R&D scientists and engineers in ongoing product and process development efforts.
        • Help train and mentor entry-level technicians in proper test execution and lab safety.
        • Communicate findings clearly with cross-functional stakeholders.


        5. Quality, Safety & Compliance



        • Ensure all work complies with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) guidelines and quality system requirements.
        • Participate in lab housekeeping, inventory management, and instrument calibration programs.



        Why you are right for the job-



        • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field.
        • Experience: Two or more years in an R&D or laboratory setting preferred, with demonstrated experience in thermal analysis, chromatography, spectroscopy, and/or mechanical testing preferred.
        • Preferred: Experience with aerogel or other advanced materials; familiarity with porous materials and relevant material characterization techniques is an advantage.

        • Frequently required to stand and use hands.
        • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
        • Regularly works in an environment with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or chemicals; personal protective equipment is provided.
        • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
