Overview
The ABB Shop Hands have a number of important duties regarding customer service, organization, and maintenance. In addition to mechanic duties such as repairing bicycles and salvaging parts from teardown bicycles, the Shop Hands will help organize the space, perform maintenance and cleaning, and be responsible for repairing the bikes that are donated to ABB from the community. The Shop Hand should have a positive attitude, be friendly, be motivated to become part of the culture at Aggie Blue Bikes, and most importantly be a quick learner. Experience with bicycle maintenance is preferred but not required, lack of experience should be substituted with a tenacity and desire to learn.

Responsibilities
Customer service:
  • Greet customers at the door
  • Collect customer A#s for our records
  • Help customers get set up on a stand and make sure a mechanic is available to help them
  • Help customers with familiar mechanical repairs on their bicycles

Learn how to perform repairs on bicycles including quick checks, 2 week checkups, and general maintenance:
  • Perform safety checks on ABB rental bicycles as well as customer bicycles
  • Teardown/ disassemble bicycles for donation, salvage parts, blue bikes, etc
  • Build, repair, and maintain bicycles to be sold and donated to the community, ensuring they are safe and functional

Clean and organize shop spaces as needed/ requested, along with daily upkeep:
  • Parts bins
  • Student parts
  • Toolboards
  • Meat Locker
  • shop area
  • bike racks

  • Motivated to learn about all aspects of Aggie Blue Bikes from repairs to history to services
  • Year-round availability (including summer months)
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Quick learner

This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. This position requires nearly continuous standing, repetitive hand motions, and reaching overhead.
