Position Summary

The Coordinator of Strengthening Community Colleges Training is responsible for developing and implementing program strategies for student outreach, recruitment, retention and advising for advanced manufacturing certificates and degrees, including apprenticeships and internships. The Coordinator functions as a liaison between students and industry and apprenticeship groups, MCC credit and non-credit programs and various local and state organizations, traveling throughout the local area in support of the program.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, assess, counsel and advise students and apprentices regarding the establishment of educational and career goals. Advise students on degree options and assist students in the enrollment process. Conduct transcript and graduation petition evaluations. Monitor student progress.
  • Develop and implement strategies for outreach, recruitment and retention of students in the advanced manufacturing related apprenticeship and internship programs
  • Work with the Office of Marketing and Public Relations to design and develop brochures, fliers and general informational materials to promote advanced manufacturing
  • Participate in career fairs and industry events to make presentations to targeted audiences
  • Develop and foster professional relationships with MCC program Advisory Committee members, district high schools and students
  • Conduct site visits to better understand student and employer needs
  • Review and maintain monthly progress reports and recordkeeping systems
  • Partner with MCC colleagues to develop student learning outcomes and plans, and to develop schedules for each term
  • Maintain all apprentice and committee files and records. Serves as representative for those committees at all relevant state and regional work-based learning related meetings
  • Actively seek new apprenticeship opportunities
  • Serve as institutional lead in the data gathering required to fulfill the reporting requirements as a member of the Rock Valley College Department of Labor Strengthening Community College Consortium.
  • Maintain data and report on student records, including enrollments, completions and transcription
  • Calculate payment and budget reports, and/or provide any statistical analysis needed
  • Comply with all federal grant regulations
  • Serve on institutional committees and attend appropriate college meetings
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Industrial Technology or related field
  • Customer-oriented and student-centered experience preferably in an academic advising capacity
  • Experience in public speaking, educational marketing and recruitment

Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated experience working with apprenticeship programs
  • Demonstrated understanding of apprenticeship and industrial occupations requirements, nature of work performed and governing agency requirements
