Examples of Duties

Job Duties

  • The Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining aspects of the organization's network infrastructure, including but not limited to Cisco Firepower / FTD Firewalls, ANS Cloud Firewalls, IPSecV2 and GRE Tunnel configurations, remote access (VPN) configuration and management, wireless networking technologies including cloud-based and on-premises wireless controllers and cloud proxy and reverse-proxy technologies
  • The Infrastructure Specialist shares responsibility for the overall security posture of the Network Infrastructure, employing cybersecurity best practices in the context of Network Credentials, Authentication, Profiling, and role-based user identity management, as well as supporting the organization's efforts in compliance with PCI-DSS and NIST CSF
  • The Infrastructure Specialist will be a primary SME for routing and switching technologies utilized by the commission, including but not limited to the Cisco Catalyst IOS XE Platform, Cisco NCS Platform, and all related / applicable protocols
  • Additional responsibilities include support, management and troubleshooting of DNS, DHCP and SMTP services
  • The Infrastructure Specialist is expected to assist with escalated helpdesk requests as needed and provide backup support for lower-level helpdesk requests when required
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the System Administrator, Technology Manger or Chief Information Officer

Typical Qualifications

Major Worker Characteristics

  • Fluent in network troubleshooting diagnostic tools such as packet capture and diagnostic, ping, traceroute, ARP, etc.
  • Possesses knowledge of network technology best practices and methodologies to successfully maintain a robust and resilient IT network
  • Author and effectively communicate necessary system documentation including technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and work aids as needed
  • Comprehend a variety of technical material including server infrastructure, end user device support (PCs, printers, audio/video equipment, related peripherals), telecommunications infrastructure, access controls, video surveillance systems, structured cabling, software development and software deployment
  • Create and maintain effective working relationships with a wide diversity of individuals in a variety of circumstances
  • Maintain exemplary communication skills both verbally and in writing on complex technical and non-technical matters
  • Assists with and participates in project activities as directed by the project manager
  • Adapt quickly to changes in priority; prioritize tasks without direct supervision
  • Self-motivated, proactive and attentive to detail
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of data and information

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of Undergraduate coursework or five (5) years training in computer science or related field, or five (5) years related work experience, which included discussion and use of computer software and hardware
  • Three (3) years' experience in network administration to include understanding of operating systems and networking technologies. Experience in dealing with stakeholders at all levels of an organization
  • Experience with Cisco networks and virtualized server environments is preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Employee will be required to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week on a rotating schedule
  • Work involves both sitting for prolonged periods of time and work in the field at Ohio Turnpike facilities
