Job Summary

This position reports to the PO&M's Superintendent of the Electric Shop. This position is responsible for assisting in the year-round operation, maintenance and repair of all electrical related equipment and systems required for the continuous and un-interrupted operation of hospital and campus utility systems. This includes but is not limited to normal and emergency electrical distribution, generation, normal and emergency lighting systems, mechanical systems, fire alarm, and nurse call systems at UCDH. The role of this position is to provide journeyman level electrical/electronic maintenance construction support with special emphasis on control theory

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Current Journeyman Electrician Certification or Journey level experience and knowledge in the Electrical trade and related practices, tools and equipment.
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years of electrical experience with commercial/industrial.
  • Skills to understand and interpret technical and mechanical specification/data of blueprints, drawings, detailed plans and instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Journeyman Electrician Certification
  • Hospital experience.
  • Skills to fabricate, maintain service, repair, replace, install and/or alter electrical systems and components and other systems related to craft function.
  • Skills to inspect and perform preventive maintenance program on electrical systems and components related to craft functions.
  • Computer skills to manage work assignments; plan, track, manage costs and schedules.
  • Skills to keep accurate record accounts of labor time and material costs.
  • Knowledge of job safety principles and practices required by state and federal mandates (examples: National Electric Code, NFPA (70E), Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety, California Code of Regulations)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to interact and covey information/instructions to diverse groups of individuals and read written work instructions, technical manuals, drawings, sketches, etc.

Department Overview

The Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds at the UC Davis Health System that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF. Plant Operations & Maintenance is one of the largest operations and maintenance support providers to clinical, administrative, research, SOM and SON departments throughout the Health System. UC Davis Health System is one of several UC campuses that have their own cogeneration, central power plants. Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, both of which are used throughout the Medical Center Campus and is supported by Plant Operations & Maintenance 24x7x365.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
