Job Description

The Marketing Director, HCP Thought Leader Programming works within the HCP Marketing team for Vertex's U.S. Commercial Pain Business Unit and reports to the Sr Director, HCP Marketing.

Vertex recently launched JOURNAVX, an oral, non-opioid medication for the treatment of moderate-to-severe acute pain. Peer education and insight generation are key strategies and investments to build awareness and support for JOURNAVX adoption across a spectrum of specialties and treatment settings.

The Director is accountable for the strategy, financial plan and execution of all the Pain BU program education channels for HCPs including but not limited to: commercial Congresses, promotional Speakers' Bureau programs and custom digital/related programs. The Director also leads the plan to assess and bring key thought leaders (KTL) views on the marketplace and JOURNAVX into the marketing team plans.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversees commercial Pain BU-led National and Regional Congress plan development (choice of meetings, sponsorship, promotional activities, budgeting) and execution to achieve business goals and in support of marketing initiatives
  • Represents the marketing team on cross-Vertex Congress planning teams; provides key customer insights and input on strategy, tactics, messaging, and program execution
  • Oversees Speakers' Bureau plan: speakers, content & formats, training and communication activities for speakers and Vertex to ensure program quality and objectives are achieved
  • Drives the facilitation and execution of commercial Pain Advisory Boards through identification of key advisors, insight generation among KTLs (meetings, consulting activities, other) and partner with Market Insights team to understand opportunities and challenges
  • Develops and maintains KTL Engagement Plans
  • People leadership: oversee team of 3 direct reports (AD to manager level)
  • Aligns with partners such as Medical Affairs on complementary initiatives with shared customers
  • Assess and direct agency relationships on the business to achieve goals
  • Role models and instills a culture of compliance focused on ethics and integrity in all we do
  • Other related duties as needed

Additional Information/Skills Needed:

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA a plus
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in biotech or pharmaceutical marketing and/or consulting including direct experience with:
  • Agency management and material development
  • Field and HCP direct interfaces
  • CRC and compliance process
  • Medical congresses
  • Cross-functional team leadership
  • Strong budget management and program management experience; experience completing ROI and assessment of promotional activities
  • Demonstrated team leadership successes
  • Understanding of principes for peer education program and HCP consulting activities including content and compliance frameworks
  • Strong communication and presentation skills including comfort with KTL discussions
  • Clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge and aptitude in complex disease states
  • Demonstrated ability to execute against strategic and tactical plans under short timelines
  • Agile in thought and action, accustomed to fast-paced, brand-launch environment
  • Ability to travel 25% of time

Pay Range:

$194,400 - $291,600

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
