Under the direction of the Sr. Nuclear Quality Assurance Engineer, this position is accountable for performing, in an objective manner, a variety of Quality Control and Document Control tasks. These include quality inspections, periodic testing, training, record keeping, and documentation management. This is a split-role position responsible for supporting both product quality control and quality documentation control. The individual will assist others as directed or required, and will be involved in cross-functional collaboration to ensure conformance to internal and customer standards.
Essential Duties:
- Quality Control Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide variety of quality control inspections/tests involving specialized knowledge of test equipment and understanding of process variables and material usage.
- Conduct reel inspections and review for compliance with documentation requirements.
- Assist laboratory technicians with test equipment, conducting tests, and preparing specimens as directed.
- Coordinate plant operations at a control level and collaborate with various internal departments.
- Communicate with factory supervisors, machine operators, engineers, and technicians to resolve issues and improve quality.
- Support the Q.C. Supervisor or Sr. Nuclear Quality Assurance Engineer in training hourly employees in measurements, data interpretation, and quality responsibilities.
- Carry out special assignments as directed by the Q.C. Supervisor or Sr. Nuclear Quality Assurance Engineer.
Document Control Responsibilities:
- Create, maintain, and update all quality documentation in QCBD, including controlled procedures, work instructions, and records.
- Review and finalize document packages (COC, CTR, and inspection checklists), ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Conduct second reviews on all production or test-related document packages prior to final submission.
- Maintain control and traceability of all quality documentation related to production runs, testing, and customer orders.
- Manage procedure revision control and ensure document updates are implemented and communicated across departments.
- Support audit preparation by ensuring all required documentation is complete, organized, and readily accessible.
- Serve as point of contact for document-related inquiries and ensure that documentation practices comply with ISO 9001 standards.
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. Education beyond high school preferred.
- Minimum of three years in wire and cable manufacturing. Experience in cabling and extrusion processes is helpful.
- Experience with quality documentation systems, such as QCBD, preferred.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
- Knowledge of wire and cable manufacturing processes and ability to read wire/cable specifications.
- Strong organizational and document management skills.
- Familiarity with Certificates of Compliance (COC), Control Test Reports (CTR), and production packages.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 and quality system documentation requirements.
- Comfortable with arithmetic including fractions and decimals; understanding of statistical process control is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound, objective judgment.
- Discretion required, as this position may handle confidential or proprietary information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management systems (e.g., QCBD).
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position performing repetitive computer-based tasks.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 lbs.
- Factory environment exposure to noise, heat, and dust; use of PPE as required.
- Frequent interaction with manufacturing team members in a production environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain quality and document control standards under tight deadlines.
