Job Description

* Advise and assist international students on immigration regulations, as well as university policy, academic, financial and personal matters impacting student status in the capacity of an F-1 Designated School Official (DSO) and J-1 Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). [NOTE: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents to perform duties of a DSO/ARO]
* Maintain up-to-date understanding of student immigration regulations and other federal, state and local laws or policies impacting the international student community e.g. social security numbers, driver's licenses, etc.
* Enter, review and submit electronic F-1/J-1 student data, prepare associated immigration forms, maintain and update student records, and develop reports to assist with Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) compliance
* Process initial I-20's in support of undergraduate and graduate admissions, including school transfer, change of level, change of status, etc.
* Assist with student communication efforts, e.g. newsletters, information packets, website, workshops, etc. to keep the community apprised of changes in immigration law/policy, university policy, and International Center policies and procedures.
* Assist with revisions of F-1/J-1 student publications and information guides on immigration issues, policies and procedures.
* Assist with updates on arrival guides and pre-arrival communication and programming.
* Assist with planning and implementation of International Student Welcome programming (orientation/immigration check-ins).
* Assist with content development and delivery of office sponsored workshops (CPT, OPT, STEM OPT, Academic Training, etc.) and other International Student & Scholar Services programming.
* Pursue professional development opportunities, e.g. NAFSA conferences and workshops.
* Other duties as assigned.

Shift

M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

One year full-time experience in international student advising, international student recruitment, or international student admissions.

Working knowledge of immigration regulations as they pertain to international students.

Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively

Bachelor's or Master's degree in higher education administration, counseling, college student personnel administration, international education/studies, foreign language, international affairs, cross-cultural communication or communications

Experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) or Responsible/Alternate Responsible Officer (A/RO)

Experience working in TerraDotta and SLATE

Experience living, working or studying abroad

Experience as paralegal for immigration law firms related to employment-based immigration.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $18.87-$26.87 hourly

Grade: GGS-008
