Position Summary
This Postdoctoral Trainee position is available through a NIH T32 training program, designed to train promising early career investigators. The Postdoctoral Trainee will investigate the kinetics and function of neutrophils and macrophage subpopulations in developing and resolving pneumonia and in acute lung injury. One active focus is mechanisms of neutrophil heterogeneity, its regulation and function. Another area explores the expression and function of ICAM-1 on alveolar epithelial type I and II cells, endothelial cells and immune cells. Studying these processes in injury caused by inhalation of toxicants may also be a component of this position. The studies utilize molecular and cell biological technologies, including single cell RNAseq/CITEseq, bulk RNA profiling and qPCR, spatial biology, flow cytometry, mass cytometry, cell sorting, ELISAs, immunoblotting, murine experimentation and histology, as well as translational science technologies.

Essential duties of the individual holding this position include:
* Designing and carrying out studies;
* Analyzing and interpreting data;
* Publishing papers describing these results, all with the mentor.

Career development of the Postdoctoral Trainee will be an important component of this position.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A PhD in Immunology, Pathology, Genetics, Cell and Molecular Physiology or similar discipline required and/or MD.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in Immunology, Pathology, Genetics, Cell and Molecular Physiology or similar discipline required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
1) Knowledge in immunology (particularly inflammation and innate immunity), cell and molecular physiology, and/or pathology of disease,
2) Experience in mouse models, particularly of lung disease.
3) Experience and proficiency in some of the technologies described above, and
4) Familiarity with large transcriptomic or proteomic datasets, as generated by scRNAseq or spatial biology.
