Senior Member of Technical Staff - Quality Engineering

THE ROLE

As Senior Member of Technical Staff in the GPU Libraries group, you will lead the strategy and execution of Quality Engineering across libraries that are part of the AMD Radeon Open Ecosystem (ROCm) ecosystem. This role focuses on the technical infrastructure supporting a robust end-to-end quality lifecycle inclusive of supporting automations, signals, and systems used to support development teams. As part of the larger Quality team initiative, you will work cross-functionally with a team of talented computer scientists, software developers, and applied mathematicians working on GPU libraries for high performance computing and machine learning workloads.

THE PERSON

To thrive in this role, you will be a leader in engineering quality-someone who not only defines robust quality strategies but also builds the systems and culture that empower teams to deliver excellence at scale. Your experience spans a diverse array of products and maturity levels, and you bring with you a proven track record of elevating quality as a core engineering value. You've led transformative initiatives that have shaped how quality is embedded into the fabric of engineering organizations, driving innovation, resilience, and continuous improvement across complex, high-impact systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Champion Quality-Driven Development: Lead cross-functional teams in the design, implementation, validation, and delivery of high-performance software libraries, ensuring seamless integration with GPU kernels and broader systems. Embed quality as a first-class concern throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Shape the Quality Roadmap: Provide critical technical input to the software roadmap with a focus on long-term quality outcomes, maintainability, and testability. Drive alignment between product goals and engineering excellence.
  • Architect for Resilience and Scalability: Initiate and influence architectural and design decisions that prioritize robustness, performance, and quality. Lead documentation efforts that support clarity, reproducibility, and continuous improvement across teams.
  • Govern Quality Across Systems: Collaborate with principal engineers to plan and execute technical governance activities that uphold high standards across integrated libraries. Establish and evolve quality metrics, review processes, and validation frameworks.
  • Design with Quality in Mind: Draft technical designs that holistically consider constraints, performance, and quality assurance. Lead by example in delivering high-quality code and uplifting the technical execution of peers.
  • Expand and Align Engineering Efforts: Review project scopes with a quality lens, identifying opportunities to broaden impact and align efforts across teams. Ensure that documentation reflects current understanding and supports future scalability.
  • Mentor for Quality Excellence: Coach and mentor engineers in quality best practices, test strategies, and sustainable development patterns. Actively participate in talent reviews and contribute to building a high-performing, quality-focused engineering culture.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Deep Technical Expertise with a Quality Lens: Extensive hands-on experience improving quality across various technologies including C++ and hardware/software co-development. Familiarity with using other languages in a supporting capacity, such as Python, Rust, Go, and JavaScript, with an emphasis on leveraging the right tools to ensure software quality and reliability.
  • Performance and Reliability Engineering: Proven experience in performance tuning, profiling, and optimization for technical computing applications. Skilled in implementing continuous integration pipelines that enforce quality gates, detect regressions early, and ensure robustness. Familiar with deployment and orchestration systems (e.g., Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes) to support scalable and reproducible quality workflows.
  • Open Source and Community-Driven Quality: Experience contributing to and collaborating within open-source communities, with a focus on maintaining high standards of code quality, documentation, and testing. Comfortable leading or participating in Agile, Scrum, or Kanban methodologies to drive iterative quality improvements and team alignment.
  • Engineering Best Practices for Quality at Scale: Demonstrated success in developing and applying professional software engineering practices to elevate quality in the software development lifecycle. Previous experience in creating and driving processes with supporting systems that improve quality and accelerate engineering outcomes across the development lifecycle.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Advanced degrees, such as M.Sc. or M.Eng. are preferred

LOCATION:

Colorado, or remote USA
