The Vice President, Lean Operations & Director of Supply Chain Services is responsible for leading and managing core operational strategies and all facets of supply chain management through the structured application of LEAN principles. This executive-level role provides oversight of enterprise-wide initiatives aimed at optimizing procurement, inventory control, logistics, and distribution of materials across all organizational locations.

The Vice President drives the development of system-wide standards, policies, and procedures that improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and service delivery without compromising safety, regulatory compliance, or user satisfaction. This position oversees a team of managers and staff who execute efficient, compliant logistics and purchasing practices.

In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer and other executive leaders, the Vice President establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) for purchasing, cost savings, inventory optimization, material management processes, and catalog development. The role also leads cross-departmental engagement with Finance, Operations, Facilities, Revenue Cycle, Grants, and Clinical Services to identify system-wide opportunities for workflow optimization, cost containment, and enhanced operational value.

Building on a foundation of supply chain excellence, the Vice President extends LEAN methodologies to other functional areas, fostering continuous improvement, alignment with organizational priorities, and sustainable value creation across the enterprise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees the implementation of supply chain policies, procedures, and performance metrics across purchasing, warehousing, and distribution functions.
  • Leads the Supply Chain Management team, ensuring alignment of daily operations with long-term strategy.
  • Designs and implements supply chain strategies to optimize sourcing, vendor performance, contract negotiation, and cost control.
  • Serves as the executive liaison between Supply Chain and internal stakeholders such as Finance, Operations, and Clinical Services to ensure supply continuity and service excellence.
  • Participates in the development of RFPs, manages vendor identification, leads contract negotiations, assesses group purchasing options
  • Leads supply chain risk management initiatives, including contingency planning for vendor disruption due to natural disasters, global instability, pandemics, manufacturing or shipping, shortages, or price volatility.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, OSHA, federal/state/local regulations) and internal procurement policies.
  • Oversees system-wide supply chain analytics, reporting, and continuous improvement projects, including inventory optimization, cost-saving initiatives, and technology implementation.
  • Leads the implementation, deployment, and optimization of Workday Supply Chain Management modules, including procurement, inventory, and supplier accounts, in partnership with IT and Finance. Ensures alignment between system capabilities and operational needs.
  • Provides mentorship and leadership development to department managers and staff, including training in LEAN principles and continuous improvement.
  • Leads strategic sourcing initiatives and builds long-term partnerships with key vendors and distributors.
  • Works with executive leadership to align supply chain strategy with organizational goals and clinical needs.
  • Oversees capital project planning and execution related to supply chain infrastructure and logistics systems.
  • Participates in enterprise-level planning for growth, emergency preparedness, and strategic procurement planning.
  • Ensures financial accountability through budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking for all supply chain operations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field required; Master's degree considered if related to SCS
  • Valid California driver's license and proof of insurance required; must maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive supply chain services leadership experience, including 3-5 years managing and working with leaders in multi-site operations.
  • In lieu of and in addition to meeting the educational requirements, a successful applicant must possess a decade or more of demonstrated experience in the application of LEAN principles based on TPS, Value Stream Mapping, DMAIC, Kaizen, JIT, TQM, Six Sigma, and more
  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare or regulated environments
  • Deep understanding of procurement, logistics, and inventory management within a multi-site organization.
  • Proficiency with integrated systems with direct experience leading a Workday Supply Chain implementation and optimization strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership and change management skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to develop high-performing teams and lead through others.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Commitment to equity, access, and quality in supply chain operations supporting community health outcomes.
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job. Must have a car, a valid California driver's license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency. In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits.

$265,000.00 - $310,000.00

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
