RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS: Lead Logistics efforts including short term, mid-term and long-term goals:
- Drive the terminal placement based on volume, capacity and costs.
- Experience managing the freight brokage rate process.
- Lead the truck, rail and barge negotiations on spot business as well as annual contract pricing.
- Provide direct support to new business development group on costings to ensure the most cost-effective solutions for Lhoist and customers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement logistics improvement projects.
- Report and communicate on logistics costs by mode to ensure the most cost-effective methods are being utilized.
- Ensure timely payment on all terminal, trucks, barge, and rail invoices.
- Manage all demurrage invoices for all modes of transportation (trucks, rail, barge).
- Conduct regular performance evaluations of logistics service providers to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and service level agreements.
Work with Management to identify cost savings and efficiencies:
- Provide direct support to the business with analysis needs on the most cost-effective modes of transportation.
- Own the transportation results and ensure monthly actuals are accurate and complete.
- Work on the development and implement logistics optimization strategies to reduce costs, improve delivery times, and enhance overall delivery experience.
- Develop and maintain relationships with transportation vendors to leverage and keep costs to a minimum.
- Manage and track logistics related KPIs and report on the performance to senior management.
Plant support:
- Partner with locations in monitoring and managing SAP, Transwide/ JWS entry and systems.
- Ensure proper loading, reporting, and guidelines are being followed consistently.
- Lead and track compliance at current and future third-party locations
- Manage the month-end reconciliation with Finance to ensure all tons are accounted for properly.
- Set up and maintain track and land leases as it pertains to plants and applicable properties.
Logistics reporting
- Report and communicate on costs by modes of transportation and account for any outliers that exist.
- Constantly running analysis looking for trends along with preparing to share conclusions and recommendations to regional leaderships.
- Actively participate in the preparation of the logistics budget which should include leases.
- Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement around the logistics process.
Railcar Management
- Closely work with the Railcar leader to ensure cars are moving at a constant rate to eliminate gaps in the pipeline to terminals.
- Work closely with the terminals on movement of barges to ensure limited gaps.
Provide Customer Service Support
- Interact with internal and external customers as well as transportation contractors.
- Actively involved in total quality process and continuous improvement of customer confidence by knowing the customer's demands for quality and quantity in relationship to inventory and customer need.
- Ensure locations are comply with all transportation guidelines.
- Work closely with the customer service manager and team to ensure alignment along with providing transportation options to meet customer needs.
- Provide training and guidance on any current or new supply chain systems/tools/models for the customer service and site shipping teams at the locations.
Lead the Customer Service team and provide support
- Interact with internal and external customers as well as transportation contractors.
- Be involved in total quality process and continuous improvement of customer confidence by knowing the customer's demands for quality and quantity in relationship to inventory and customer need.
Identify and propose additional supply chain tools and processes which could benefit the company. Provide training and guidance on any current or new supply chain/logistics systems/tools for the site shipping teams at the locations Perform other duties as assigned ATTRIBUTES:
- Ability to conduct detailed business analysis with emphasis on financial, cost control and business issues in addition to logistic perspective
- Positive and proactive attitude. Ability to perform with minimal supervision on multiple projects in a continuous manufacturing/mining environment is essential.
- Proven supervision and leadership skills along with development direct reports and team members.
- Prior experience in bulk material, chemical, or mining materials logistics processes is desired
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
- Must be capable of work any shift, overtime, seven days, or holidays, if needed
- Must work well with others within and outside the department and be comfortable working in both an office and industrial/production environment.
- Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and contribute to team success
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write business reports and conduct presentations regarding conclusions and recommendations to support the decision-making.
- Must be able to assist the leadership team on improving a system of shipping controls, standard operating procedure, safety, quality control, and performance management
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines.
- Extremely dependable. The time-sensitive nature of the position requires excellent attendance and complete customer focus.
- Excellent PC skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, and prior experience working with large network ERP system (SAP knowledge preferred)
Physical Demands include, but are not limited to:
- Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
- Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
- Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise, and dust.
- Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
- Will be working in an office environment, mining, and mineral processing environment.
- The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
- The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to travel up to 35% to the various locations as needed and/or directed by leadership.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- BS degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Finance, Engineering or technical related field or equivalent work experience in the field is desired
PREFFERED EDUCATION:
- BS Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree is a plus
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 6 - 10 years of progressive logistics experience preferably in heavy manufacturing, bulk material, transportation, chemical, cement, construction, and/or mining/mineral/clay processing environment. Previous experience should include all major modes of transportation (Truck, Barge, and Rail), preferably. Previous supervision experience is required. Must have proven freight broker experience is highly desired.
PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:
- 7 years of progressive logistics experience preferably in heavy manufacturing, bulk material, transportation, chemical, cement, construction, and/or mining/mineral/clay processing environment. Previous experience should include all major modes of transportation (Truck, Barge, and Rail) preferably. Brokerage experience, SAP/ Transwide or JWS experience is a plus.
