What this job involves - The Utility Engineer plays a vital role in the facilities team, supporting the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and enhancements of the client's site facilities. Coordinates and collaborates closely with the Facilities Managers and Chief Engineer. This position will need to join Union Local 39.

What is the day to day?

  • Repairs on toilet facilities including soap dispensers.
  • Repairs on registers and radiators.
  • Replacement of lamps and cleaning of light fixtures.
  • Removing ceiling tile.
  • Minor repairs on furniture and floors.
  • Maintaining and/or replacing door hardware.
  • Repair of floor maintenance equipment and venetian blinds.
  • Maintenance painting in equipment rooms, cooling towers and other building facilities.
  • Replacement of air filters in the H.V.A.C. equipment.
  • General cleaning in mechanical spaces and perimeter induction units.
  • Cleanup of equipment in engine room and shop.
  • Miscellaneous handy work requiring the limited use of hand tools.
  • Replace fire extinguishers when needed.
  • Cleaning of air vents and roof drains.
  • Perform maintenance, monitoring repairs to the Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems for the facility to keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards as assigned
  • Maintains responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, contracted maintenance, general maintenance and technical proficiency.
  • Maintain a consistent and professional on-site presence to support facility operations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, manage priorities effectively, and take initiative in daily tasks, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and accountability.
  • Follow protocol for effective building-specific maintenance and safety procedures, maintain on-going communication with contractors, client, and facilities management team, and assist with site inspection for client site.
  • Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory.
  • Monitor the quality of maintenance work performed by outside contractors.
  • Maintenance of the equipment will include cleaning, inspecting, and changing parts to maintain the Utility systems and associated equipment at optimum performance levels.
  • Review assigned service request and provided accurate details to pinpoint and correct recurrent operational problems.
  • Verify the accuracy of maintenance data and information for the Preventative maintenance plans.

Desired experience and technical skills

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance, repair, plumbing, electrical and troubleshooting
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders
  • Willingness to respond to after-hours emergency calls on rotation
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to join Union Local 39

Preferred

  • 1-2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, property maintenance, or related field
  • Technical/vocational training in building systems or trades
  • Experience with preventive maintenance procedures
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management software (CMMS)
  • Certification in a related trade (HVAC, EPA, electrical, etc.)

Estimated total compensation for this position:

83,428.00 - 83,428.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
