Responsible for controlling loss expenses by monitoring the handling of physical damage claims to ensure quality, service and cost effectiveness. Conducts re-inspections to assure accuracy and resolves conflicts from the original inspection. Supervises and/or handles difficult material damage appraisals or claims specific to heavy equipment and large trucks that typically have high loss amounts. Assures prompt, accurate and cost effective processing. Monitors materials damage loss controls. Operates drive-in claim services to ensure quality service and control loss expenses. Responsible for handling large loss claims.

What You'll Do:

As an Appraiser for Large Trucks & Heavy Equipment, you will:

  • Supervise and/or manage complex material damage appraisals for claims specific to heavy equipment and large trucks that typically have high loss exposures. Adhere to state-specific compliance issues for assigned jurisdictions.
  • Evaluate losses and prepare or audit a damage appraisal, estimating the repairs needed for items such as labor costs, actual cash value, calculations, parts, and repairs prices.
  • Conduct vehicle damage re-inspections of staff and independent appraisers to ensure accuracy and resolve any conflicts arising from the original inspection. Review documentation of total loss estimates to determine if vehicle is repairable.
  • Review, monitor, and control estimates, expenses, and services of independent appraisers and direct repair facilities. Review and authorize payment of independent appraiser expenses.
  • Negotiate salvage with vehicle dismantlers.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtain and maintain state adjuster/appraiser licenses as required.
  • Maintain contact within the automotive repair industry, periodically visit repair facilities, vehicle dismantlers, and specialized facilities in order to stay current with evolving practices and technologies.
  • Monitor and control expenses related to salvage operations.
  • Review subrogation demands.
  • Provide training and orientation to new field and/or inside claim staff on material damage inspections, appraisals and procedures and provides technical advice relating to heavy equipment and large trucks.
  • Resolve complaints from policyholders, claimants, or state insurance departments concerning material damage losses.
  • May operate the drive-in claim service in some locations.
  • May provide back up to claims manager.
  • Oversee appraisal clause files.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.

What it Takes:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise on one or more specialized vehicle classes or types.
