WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Join Waukesha County as our Natural Resource Program Coordinator, where you will harness your expertise to manage all facets of our dynamic Natural Resource Program. This role is perfect for an experienced professional who is enthusiastic about sustainable environmental practices, strategic planning, and community engagement.

Function of the Job:

  • Manage the full spectrum of the Natural Resource Program, ensuring high standards in natural land management and long-term operational planning.
  • Spearhead project management, ecological assessments, database management, and the cultivation of strategic partnerships.
  • Lead initiatives focused on public education and community engagement in environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead, and refine comprehensive land management plans for parklands, greenways, and trails.
  • Cultivate partnerships with sponsors, donors, and conservation organizations to bolster program objectives.
  • Identify and secure grants to enhance program funding and resources.
  • Conduct field research and ecological assessments, focusing on plant and wildlife species, to inform land management strategies.
  • Manage and document ecological data to facilitate project development and operational decision-making.
  • Design, implement, and oversee wildlife and vegetation management activities, including controlled burns and invasive species control.
  • Coordinate and execute burn operations in compliance with safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and seasonal staff, enhancing program reach and impact.
  • Develop and present educational materials and programs to promote public awareness and engagement.

Successful candidate will have:

  • Deep knowledge of plant and wildlife species, environmental education, and ecological research methods.
  • Qualification or equivalent experience as NWCG Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2), including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), Introduction to Wild Land Fire Behavior (S-190), and Firefighting Training (S-130).
  • Proficiency in data management, GIS, and project management software.
  • Strong skills in public education program development and technical communication.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with diverse goals and deadlines.
  • Capable of engaging with diverse communities and fostering inclusive program participation.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major courses in environmental education, botany, zoology, forestry, natural resource management or a closely related field.
2. Two (2) years of experience performing duties involving or relating to nature study activities, ecological assessments, or environmental education.

Must be qualified or have equivalent experience as a NWCG Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2), including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), Introduction to Wild Land Fire Behavior (S-190), and Firefighting Training (S-130).
