Job Description

The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide, Department of Flight,invites applications for a full-time RPA Flight Instructor position. Successful applicants will instruct students enrolled in professional education (non-degree) RPA and Uncrewed Maritime Systems (UMS) courses including basic and advanced flight, fundamentals of instruction, AUVSI Trusted Operator (UAS and UMS), photogrammetry, surface and subsurface operations and others. Current FAA 14 CFR Part 107 certification is required to apply. Experience with commercial and/or military UAS/UMS operations, teaching/instructional experience, and domain specific STEM principles is required. Classes will be taught at various campuses in different modalities, most commonly in the asynchronous online modality. It may also include instructing/evaluating/mentoring students at Worldwide, Daytona Beach, and Prescott campus locations and will involve limited travel.

Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Must have a current 14 CFR Part 107 certification and be able to become a TOP Level-3 RPI prior to teaching classes.
    • Must have a strong background in aviation including traditional aviation, RPAs, autonomous flight, surface and subsurface maritime operations, a broad insight into the interdisciplinary nature of aviation/maritime and related activities, and a strong interest in developing collaborative projects in the specified fields is desired.
    • Candidates should have demonstrated experience in aviation/surface/subsurface operations and instruction. Specifically, the candidate should have expertise in the broad context of the commercial RPA/UMS industry and safety, along with detailed understanding of mission planning, operations, and data processing.

    As an Embry-Riddle Instructor, your mentoring of our students is key to our success as a provider of a world-class education. This position requires the flight instructor to:

    • Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that centers on student success;
    • Utilize audio/visual tools within the course to personalize course content based on your subject-matter expertise;
    • Be proficient at the instructor level in a wide variety of RPA/UMS software and hardware.
    • Utilize audio/visual tools to provide individualized student feedback emphasizing strengths and weaknesses, flight safety, professional aviation standards and subject matter;
    • Understand the learning differences of each student;
    • Be flexible and understanding of each student's unique situation as a large majority of our students are non-traditional learners; and
    • Ensure the high professional aviation standards and safety principles of ERAU are upheld.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • AUVSI Trusted UAS Operator Level-3 Instructor Certification
    • U.S. Coast Guard approved Safety Certification
    • FEMA Incident Management Certification
    • Thermography and/or Photogrammetry Industry Certification
