Why you will make history here... The Packaging Technician provides technical support across multiple areas within the Packaging labs. This role is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment, managing materials and storage logistics, and leading lab space planning initiatives. The technician supports Packaging Engineers through testing, evaluations, and development efforts-especially related to new packaging platforms and plays a key role in programs like End Aisle Display management, case barcode label development, and Packaging specification and Bills of Materials maintenance. The Packaging Technician will also lead ISTA ship testing and assist with plant trials, leveraging hands-on expertise to support shipping inspections and data gathering. Participation may be required in the development of packaging mock-ups and product tastings on an as-needed basis. The Packaging Technician will work with the broader Packaging and R&D teams. Strong communication, hands-on technical expertise, and organizational skills are essential, as the technician often coordinates across the categories within the Packaging department to deliver timely, high-quality support for packaging development and lab activities. What you will do... Packaging Lab Management * Maintain, set up, and troubleshoot lab equipment. * Develop test procedures and provide equipment training. * Manage storage, product disposal, and materials logistics. * Plan and implement updates for future lab space improvements. * Act as lead point of contact for all transit testing, both over-the-road and simulated ship testing. Packaging Program Support * Manage the End Aisle Display (EADs) program: Day-to-day Optiva approvals for EADs related item codes, pallet pattern generation with TOPS, pallet specifications, 200 formulas with minor supervision. Attend weekly Display Meeting and some communication with Broader Display Team. * Coordinates case barcode label setup in collaboration with Packaging Engineers by pulling weekly Optiva reports, facilitating communication with engineers and suppliers, and maintaining the CBC label tracking spreadsheet. * Provide Optiva system support, including: o Issuing purchase specifications. o Handling day-to-day system maintenance tasks. o Assist with 280 and 200 formula builds and SOP maintenance for common packaging tasks. * Manage team SharePoint site which houses shared documents for the Packaging team. Packaging Project Support * Create mock-up samples and conduct pallet inspections for trials. * Execute packaging material testing for data gathering qualifications and quality resolution. Provide reports that summarize data to enable decisions. * Manage packaging handling, inventory, and shipments. * Support Pilot Plant trials and field shipping activities. Who you will work with... You will work with the R&D department. What you bring to the table... * High School Diploma or equivalent * 5+ years of experience in Packaging R&D support It would be great to have... * Strong communication and writing skills. * Experience with packaging development software desired (TOPS or CAPE), specification database management (Optiva), and MS Office. * Hands-on experience with a variety of packaging test equipment such as microscopes, tensile testers, burst testing, dynamics equipment (shock, vibration, drop), etc. * Self-starter, with the ability to drive technical solutions forward and multi-task on key programs / projects. * Ability to identify and conduct appropriate tests to simulate the distribution environment and package performance. * Willingness to learn, apply and teach new test methodology. Compensation and Benefits: The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between $45,800-$65,800Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
