We are currently seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our Richmond, VA office location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Create projects in the accounting system and define the billing terms based on contract
  • Maintain project-related accounting records, including contracts, purchase orders and change orders
  • Work with project managers to prepare monthly invoices, prepare client payment applications, lien waivers and submit invoices per the contract instructions
  • Process labor and expense transfers to accurately reflect project costing
  • Investigate project costing variances and resolve/explain discrepancies
  • Investigate and reconcile variances that occur in the application of cash receipts from clients
  • Monitor accounts receivable and support project managers with collection efforts
  • Write off any uncollectible receivables, labor or expenses, as directed by the senior management
  • Monitor remaining funding available for projects and report to project managers
  • Support client relationship and reply to client requests as necessary
  • Ensure consistent billing and financial reporting at project levels
  • Limited travel to outside offices (less than 5%) is required
  • Partial remote work options available once training is completed (estimated 90 - 120 days)

Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Ideal candidates will have a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in project accounting and understanding of project costing
  • Experience in engineering/construction firm or other service industry is preferred
  • Excellent customer focus, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organization and time management skills are essential
  • Excellent MS Office suite skills including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint experience a plus
